What Makes It Awesome?

Having taken inspiration from the area Harajuku in Tokyo which is known for its most extreme teenage cultures and quirky fashion styles is a restaurant called Harajuku right in Bandra.

Located on Chapel Road, Harajuku occupies a small space that can accommodate not more than 8 people at a given point of time. The entire space is done up very cutely with colourful doodles and images of the people sporting quirky outfits in Harajuku. Their wall even has a neon signboard that reads “It’s Harajuku baby!”

They serve a variety of Japanese street food both, sweet and savoury - just the way it is served at home in Japan. Their quirky menu consists of sweet and savoury crepes, Doriyaki {cute stuffed pancakes}, and the social media superstar Taiyaki.

We tried the Porcini Ramen Crepe and their Dark Chocolate Doriyaki to begin with. While the savoury crepes and Doriyaki are both highly recommended, we were eagerly waiting to get our hands on the most Instagram friendly item on their menu- the Taiyaki {fish-shaped waffles; they're vegetarian!}

These waffles are first stuffed with custard/authentic red bean filling and then topped with a giant scoop of ice cream {their best-selling flavours are the Matcha and Black Sesame} and garnished with cake sticks and chocolate sauce. We loved the Black Sesame ice cream because coming across a flavour that is sweet and savoury at the same time is very rare in Mumbai.

All in all, Harajuku is a great place to dine at if you are looking for something different, with extremely insta-friendly interiors, and food that will touch your soul.

PS - Don't forget to say "Itadakimasu" before you start your meal, which is the Japanese version of grace before eating, they'll love it.
