A group of Mumbai women sit and stitch beautiful hand-block home linen for our homes as part of an initiative called Women’s India Trust.
#LBBLoves: This Women's Trust Makes Everything From Cushion Covers To Stationery
Handstitched With Love
In the year 1968, a Parsi lady named Kamila Tyabji began this initiative in order to provide sustainable livelihood solutions to women from underprivileged sects, so that they can earn some money, skills and in turn, independence.
They make day to day home linen products, which could be a lovely block-printed bed sheet for a room, or a pastel coloured cotton cloth to lay over your table. Other products include cloth gift bags, napkins, place mats, wine bottle bags, greeting cards and preserves – including delicious jams, pickles and jellies of different flavours.
The women who are trained to make these products have the option to either take work home and make it at their convenience, or they could come and work at their workshop in Mahim which has 25 machines.
So, We're Saying...
So how can you buy it? You can visit their brick-and-mortar store inside Bombay Market in Tardeo, or shop online here. The products are affordably priced, starting at INR 230 for a cushion cover and INR 245 for a wine bottle bag.
Do support these lovely, hardworking women by buying their products. It will provide them with a livelihood and you with beautiful products for your home.
