This Thursday, December 15, the doors of Mumbai’s first South Indian-themed bar, SamBar {punning on sambar, yes} will open at Khar, and they will serve filter coffee cocktails, gun powder fries and more.

Tell Me More

It was Rajnikanth’s birthday yesterday, so what better news than hearing about a South Indian-themed bar that’s set to replace Loca Loca at Khar?! The soon-to-be-launched bar, which is located in a fun neighbourhood buzzing with pubs, SamBar will have an amazing South Indian take on everything – its interiors, food and drinks. Basically, this bar is set to teleport you to a friendly tavern in Kerala with fish nets, coconut tops and hand-painted Kathakali art that will create a ‘yella’ mood inside.

Similarly, the bar’s menu, too, is loud and lovable. The menu combines the ordinary with the extra-ordinary as you bite into Andhra fish fingers that will make you feel you’ve eaten straight after a fresh catch or the ‘Chicken Vepuddu’ {their South Indian take to chicken chilly}. We hear their must-try dishes will include goji bajje {Mangalore bajji- deep fried maida balls with a crisp layer inside) and gun powder fries among many other native dishes with a distinct South Indian culinary twist.

There is much South Indian drama to celebrate with SamBar signatures such as ‘Anna Colada’ – An american classic with a south Indian zing, or the Chill Madi {LIIT with all the five spirits + kokum} that will ensure you sing Kolaveri Di better than even Dhanush. Handmade liqueurs and flavours mandate the Cappi Madras – a fascinatingly caffeinated cocktail of vodka, coffee liquor and cardamom, whereas the Rumbha acts as your bar room enchantress with magic created with a concoction of dark rum, jaggery and lime! Make your tongue dance to a new tune with Spice-a-talam – where vodka, coriander, chaat masala and Tabasco play footsie with a dash of coke. SamBar will introduce Rajnikanth happy hours, South Indian movie nights and many other crazy ideas to pay homage to every South Indian meme that has made you smile. The bar will also be pocket-friendly, so you’ve got little to worry about.

So, We're Saying...

Get your anna mode on and head to this all-new bar as soon as it opens because it promises to be unlike anything else you’ve seen in the city before.
