Don't get me wrong, I love my coffee but I'm not a fan of the after coffee jitters if I have a cup or two more. So, over the last few years, I have befriended green tea because I need an afternoon (light) caffeine fix when I want to sip on something warm that's strong enough to keep me awake, but contains less caffeine than coffee.

While keeping myself awake, I also decided to experiment with different green tea brands because while I love the nuanced flavour profile that is earthy, herbaceous and grassy I also wanted to find the green tea brand for myself that's not too bitter and just right.  So, here are the best green tea brands in India that won't make you want to pinch your nose to down your cup of green tea by anyhow.

Twinings

Twinings has always been an iconic tea brand that takes their teas and infusions very seriously. Their green tea bag offerings include the classic 'Pure Green Tea' which is the best one to buy if you like your green tea simple, and variants infused with earl grey, cranberries, pomegranate, strawberries, lemon, and lemon & honey in case you are one for added flavours. And because it's Twinings, you can be assured the quality of the tea leaves will be great.

Lipton

Lipton's probably one of the most popular green tea brands in the world. Their green tea is a proprietary blend of green tea, honey and lemon which gives it a sweet and zesty flavour profile. It is rich in antioxidants and sipping on this means you are technically not consuming extra calories, and also helping your metabolism improve simultaneously.

Tetley

Tetley's green tea is extremely popular in India. It has a pure tea taste that is sharp and full of smooth flavours that makes it hit among most green tea drinkers. Additionally, each tea bag is separately packed in its own envelope (unlike other brands) which keeps it fresh and away from unnecessary oxygenation, which otherwise makes it bitter and pretty unbearable.

If you like your green tea slightly less strong and bitter, then Organic India's Tulsi Green Tea is the best pick for you! It is a combination of high-quality organic green tea leaves and Tulsi leaves. The end result is a beautifully balanced, flavourful, and aromatic tea with numerous health benefits. The taste is slightly subtle with light, crisp notes of the green tea and herbal notes from the tulsi which gives it a refreshing taste.

Ty-phoo

Ty-phoo's green tea is sourced from estates in India and Nepal. It has a refreshing, light flavour with subtle grassy undertone which doesn't taste bitter. When brewed properly, the tea takes on a light golden hue in comparison to other green tea brands which look deep brown or deep gold when brewed. I personally enjoy their Moroccan Mint variant more than others and often use it for making iced tea at home because of the refreshing taste.

Goodwyn

I discovered Goodwyn's green tea recently at a hotel. The flavour profile is decent, tastes crisp and aromatic. Their green tea is made using a century old blending technique that includes steaming the leaves to avoid fermentation that keep the flavour and colour intact. All in all, a great pick if you don't mind a slightly pungent taste.
