Don't get us wrong, but your bed is basically your only comfort space (literally). There's nothing that can beat the peace and satisfaction one gets after hitting the sack post a long day at work. While we are all for chasing (or if we may, manifesting) bigger things, when it comes to choosing the size of your bed, you might want to slow down and give it a thought before rushing the choice between the king and the queen size. So, we thought of doing the needful and helping you with a brief comparison between the two to facilitate better decision-making and to make 'good night's sleep' an everyday feeling for you.

King Size Bed

Size:

Of course, you already know that the king-size bed is larger in size in comparison to the queen-size. Moving to the nitty-gritty, a typical king-size bed in India follows the dimensions of around 76 inches x 80 inches or (193 cm x 203 cm). A king-size bed is ideal if you have a partner or kids or even a pet since there's enough room or, scrap that, you live alone and just want more space (just like in life). We mean, who doesn't mind the extra space when you are dosing off to sleep and don't have any space restrictions?

Room space:

Ideally, your room size should be a minimum of around 12 feet by 9.10 feet to accommodate a standard king-size bed. This leaves at least 30 inches of space around the bed for free movement. However, this still might feel slightly cramped so you might want to reconsider. It's always better to compare the measurements of the bed on your wishlist to that of your room before making the decision to avoid last-minute space issues. If we take standard Indian home sizing into account, a king-size bed might actually not be that great of a fit for your room.

Pros:

-A bigger bed equals bigger space to sprawl across, isn't this what everybody wants?

-The extra space is a blessing for tall folks. No more feet dangling ahead of the mattress.

-Ideal if you need space to cuddle with your special one, kids, pets, or even yourself!

-It might be a great investment since you won't have to buy a new bed when the family grows.

-Hoarders get extra bed box space to store their possessions.

Cons:

- Not suitable for standard Indian bedroom sizes.

-The bedroom can look cramped if there's not enough free space, no matter how tidy you keep it.

-They don't come cheap, obviously.

-Mattress is also more pricier for king-sized beds.

-It might not happen to all but king-sized beds do feel gigantic at times.

-Isn't that easy to dismantle so might be a hassle if you have to shift homes by any chance.

Queen Size Bed

Size:

The queen-sized bed measures around 60 inches x 78 inches (or 152 cm x 198 cm) in India, which isn't that much of a difference compared to the king's size. Queen-size beds actually have enough space to accommodate two people comfortably. Also, queen-size beds feel more cosy.

Room space:

Bedrooms with queen beds should have minimum areas of roughly 106 feet square. This will give you roughly 30 inches of free area around the bed. This one's a better match if you have a smaller room and not a 'master' bedroom space to accommodate a king-size bed. Queen-size beds are also a better match for standard room sizes in India so if you stay in an apartment with typical room sizes, this is the better choice for you.

Pros:

-If you're short on space, a king bed is out but a queen-sized bed can easily fit into small bedrooms without taking up too much space.

-They provide ample of space if you are a single person living alone, or even a couple who doesn't need much space.

-They are cheaper than king-sized beds.

-Of course, the mattress too is cheaper for queen-sized beds.

- They look more elegant and cutesy, don't all Pinterest-y bedrooms have a queen-sized bed?

-In comparison to king-sized beds, these are easier to dismantle.

Cons:

-Space might be less for some people.

-Not suitable if you have kids or a pet since there might be space issues.

-You will have to upgrade to a bigger bed if  the family grows.

-The bed box storage is less.

Conclusion

Finding the right bed can be difficult for a first-time buyer, but it can become quite simple once you know what type of bed you require. While king size might be an obvious choice for Indian homes, however, they can look quite cramped if your bedroom doesn't have enough space where the queen-size steps in to be your saviour. So, all in all, it comes down to the space of your bedroom, your budget and last but not least, your preferences.
