Inspecting the latest trends and going deep into the scientific background of it is our job for you, and that is exactly what we did when we heard of the latest rave on all skincare pages — Oil Gritting.

Oil gritting is basically a method that is supposed to remove all blackheads and gunk from the pores of your skin by cleansing it only by rubbing some oil on it for 15 minutes. Yes, we agree, it sounds a little too good to be true, which is why we went down a rabbit hole researching and found out everything to know about skin gritting, for all you sceptics.

How To Do Oil Gritting Right?

Basically oil gritting works in 2 steps, just like your verifications. First you massage a non-comedogenic cleansing oil into your skin for a good 15 minutes, then wipe it away with a washcloth to remove the cleanser. The second step is to make sure all those dead skin cells and impurities are completely removed by using a clay mask over it, and then wiping it away with a wet washcloth and following it up with your regular skincare routine.

What Is The Science Behind Oil Gritting?

Skincare enthusiasts took to social media to explain this two-step process and its success. Essentially the oil breaks down all the impurities in the skin and dissolves it, and the mask pulls it out of your skin leaving it fresh and clear.

Although the removal of blackheads and sebums is not scientifically backed, because of the rubbing over the skin and the mask, you do get rid of dead skin and other dirt over your face which comes out as tiny grits, hence the name.

Since you are rubbing an oil deep into your skin, using a non-comedogenic oil is recommended. Non-comedogenic basically means a product that contains ingredients which will not clog your pores, mix it with a cleansing oil and you get something that cleans out your pores rather than clogging them like regular oils.
