A Modern Bistro At Ballygunge Takes Us Through Yet Another Asian Street Food

What Makes It Awesome?

Our latest visit was at Mamasan, a modern bistro located at Ballygunge Place takes us through yet another Asian street food cuisine adventure.

From the exciting menu, we started with their dim sums and we were presented with Fried Teriyaki Chicken Momo. The filling inside the momo is appreciable. Moving ahead in appetizers we aimed for Sriracha Chilli Peanuts Chicken. Quantity and presentation were somewhat good. Before moving to the main course, we took a dig at the grilled section and we got Indonesian Java Grilled Chicken. Now, this was a saviour, the taste of spicy sambal sauce and finishing of sesame oil took us through a talk-able gastronomic journey.

It's finally time to hit the main course and what we do have in store. We had Oriental Hakka Chicken Noodles and Spicy Sichuanese Chicken Rice. The noodle was a classic one nothing new to boast about it. We were also accompanied by Korean Chilli Chicken and Balinese Sambal Fish. The chicken is a Korean dish and readily available at the streets of Seoul. The seasoning with Korean gochujang sauce was commendable.

Interior is a minimalistic design and moderately spacious but enough cosy and comfortable; can serve more or less 40 people at a time. Dimmed lights, white wood finish furniture; Chinese hand fans hanging from the wall with suitable music develops the desired calm atmosphere of relishing Asian street food.

What Could Be Better?

But the outside layer looks under-fried. Also, the skin of the momo was super thick to my liking. Sriracha Chilli Peanuts Chicken falls flat on taste. Lack of salt and raw taste of peanuts did not please my taste buds. Spicy Sichuanese Chicken Rice had a lot of scopes to impress but again the lack of salt dampened the mood. Korean Chilli Chicken gravy was a bit watery to my preference. Fish dish has failed to excite as the fish was not having any flavour itself and looks like the chef got confused with the sauce while reducing soy sauce with cane sugar.
