Ten-Second Takeaway

The rain’s been getting you down? This list of breakfast spreads in the city will lift up your mood and kickstart your day – without burning a hole in your pocket!

Tiretta Bazaar

Rise and shine the earliest and by 6.30 am make sure you reach the famous Tiretta Bazar (it closes by 7.30 am on weekdays and 8.30 am on Sundays, so you wouldn’t want to be late!). They have a host of authentic Chinese dishes to choose from, like spring rolls, prawn wafers, dumplings, and even desserts. We specially love the pork pau, with a hot bowl of fish dumpling soup and Chaang Yuan Paan (vegetable dumplings, if you wish to skip the meat). With each item priced at around 70 INR, Tiretta Bazaar provides a rich, filling breakfast at very affordable prices.

Tasty Corner

If you’re craving a piping hot plate of kachori sabzi for breakfast, Tasty Corner is the place to go to! Choose from a wide range of authentic Indian breakfast items like khasta kachoris and radhabhallabhis, with beverages like lassi or kesar tea to go with it. We are huge fans of their famous kachori sabzi, with jalebis that leave the sweetest aftertaste in the palate. A plate of kachori sabzi, followed by a few of their hot jalebis and a cup of kesar tea will cost you no more than a 150 INR, but will leave you feeling fulfilled.

Raj’s Spanish Café

There’s nothing like walking through Sudder Street with its history and stories, and watching the hustle-bustle slowly pour in with the rising sunshine. While you’re at it, stroll into the famous Spanish Café, and break your fast with a croissant with tomato cheese at 90INR. We also adore the Tuna sandwich and our old favorite, scrambled eggs on toast at 90INR and 70INR respectively. If you wish, you can also opt for their evergreen breakfast combo at 140INR and kickstart your day with a Spanish Café twist!

Ramakrishna Lunch Home

Located conveniently on Sarat Bose Road, Ramakrishna Lunch Home is famous for its inexpensive, and scrumptious South Indian spread. If you need a little pick-me-up, do not forget to taste their filter coffee. Our favourites are the melt-in-the-mouth idlis, perfectly roasted dosas with steaming hot sambar. It opens by 6 am, so if you are an early bird looking for a rich South Indian breakfast, Ramakrishna Lunch Home is your calling!
