The traffic in Pune might be dominated by two-wheelers, but nothing beats discovering the narrow lanes of old Pune, the hidden by-lanes of the wadas and the green-lined roads of the distant suburbs, on a bicycle. If you’ve been planning to pedal your way through the city, here are some of our favourite cycling tracks in the city that will make your cycling experience a memorable one.

Pune University To Chandni Chowk

This is a small cycling route, and can easily be covered in the early hours of the morning before the traffic takes over. The roads are wide, clean and green, and this route takes you through the beautiful neighbourhood of NDA, all the way to the Mumbai highway. If you want, you can explore the by-lanes that go off the main road... and while you’re at it, make sure you stumble upon the beauty of the Khadakwasla Lake. You can start from F.C Road and then map out your way around the tracks.

Pune - Mulshi

If you’re up for a longer ride, instead of stopping at Chandni Chowk make your way to the exit leading out of the junction, towards Mulshi. This is a scenic road that winds through green hills, and if you’re in the mood for the entire ride, you’ll end up clocking around 55km one way. This comes highly recommended for those who love nature and photography. You can start from the Bhugaon road and then keep riding till you can.

Pune - Lavasa

This one’s along the Mulshi road, but takes you through a different landscape filled with dense green trees, farms, and a dam. This route would be great to explore on a Sunday, when you can leave Pune and cycle around 60km upto Lavasa. Eat a lovely breakfast, take pictures, and cycle back again. You can pick Chandni Chowk as your start point and then ride away.

Pune - Sinhagad Fort

Around 45km away from Pune, this experience proves to be a great workout, and is a treat to the senses! This too gives you the chance to enjoy beautiful views of the Khadakwasla Lake starting from the Jain Mandir road in Erandwane, and if you’re a pro cyclist looking for a challenge, cycling up to the fort would be a fun thing to try out on of the weekends!

#LBBTip – you can follow this route to cycle all the way up to Panshet Dam too.

Pune - Lonavala

Yes, you read that right. You can also cycle to Lonavala. This route rewards you with jaw-dropping views of the Western Ghats, forests and a great workout! Try this over a weekend, and don’t forget to enjoy some lovely breakfast along the way. You can start from Hinjewadi and take the road through Marunji to reach lonavala on a cycle.
