Who in the history of mankind has been able to ignore the call of chocolate or ice cream while strolling by the beach? Or hasn't been guilty of Netflix with a big slice of cake perched in the lap? And when in Goa, your dessert options are huge between boozy ice creams and traditional sweets (Bebinca and Seradurra FTW). So, go on indulging that sweet tooth a bit with all the sweet stuff at our favourite dessert parlours in Goa.

Cream Choc

The adage “I scream for Ice-Cream” was never true-er — head to Cream n Choc and indulge your ice cream fantasies. Owned by an Italian, who makes them all in-house, this place is the go-to place for gelatos and sorbets. With an exciting mix of traditional and exotic flavours, you can try everything from peanut butter, Belgian chocolate, mango, pistachio custard apple and rum ’n’ raisin. With ample portion size, you can make this a mini-meal. They even have freshly brewed coffees and amazing sorbet options including lemon and strawberry.

A small, and intimate place, Cream n Choc, located in Anjuna is open till about 1 am, but most of their flavours are done by the end of the day so if you want a platter of crazy delicious choices of gelato, don't wait for the night. They also have a new outlet in Porvorim that’s hard to miss and often falls on the way when out and about in North Goa and we’re chuffed to report that not only do they have a killer stock of their well-loved ice creams but also sandwiches, smoothies and slushies to pick from.

Also Check Out: Ibaco or Omio in Porvorim (their Serradura ice cream is epic!)

Jila Bakery

A local favourite for all things sweet, Jila Bakery is known for the creamiest eclairs and decadent desserts and biscuits. Rumour has it that this place was a favourite of Indira Gandhi’s and if that alone doesn’t make you want to check what the fuss is about, head here to try their delicious eclairs. They are also known for their Geneva biscuits and apple strudel. With reasonably priced confectionery items, just make sure you have space in your luggage for takeaway! It’s an old family business, in Camorlim, Salcette, and the owners are extremely sweet and friendly, but our recommendation would be to book your order beforehand because their desserts sell out pretty quick.

Also Check Out:  Confeitaria 31 De Janeiro for Goan desserts like Bibinca or fresh plum and walnut cakes.

Pastry Cottage

One of the oldest bakeries in Panaji, Pasty Cottage, has recently opened a bistro at its new location in Caranzalem, close to Miramar beach. With a cosy seating area, you can relish fresh fruit pastries, cakes and coffee through their chicken croquette is also definitely worth the mention. A perfect place to spend your wintery evening catching up with your old buddies or reading a book. If you’re in a rush, you can also pick up warm and buttery cake slabs in all possible flavours like plum, banana, walnut, almond and many more.

Also Check Out: Bakers Street for their epic custard doughnuts and The Chocolate Room for brownies, waffles and all things chocolatey.

Artisan Backerei

This bakery that recreates vintage recipes from Hungary, Germany & Italy, Artisan Backerei, is located in Calangute. It's a result of Vijay Nagpal, the owner’s, decades of experience as a pastry chef and his romance with the oven. Their Zuccotto Fiorentino (INR 160), a dark chocolate dome filled with hazelnut, cherries and cointreau cream is one of those forgotten desserts from the 16th century (that is now served only in Italy) and is now in Goa. Try their popular Hummingbird cake (INR 180), a recipe brought all the way from Jamaica, or the Esterhazy Torte (INR 130), a recipe originally made for the King of Hungary. From a Feijoada Pie, to the Three Bean Pie, to the classic Quiche Lorraine, there is a story behind every delicacy here, and they put it out through tiny cards in front of every item. If you are a vegan, try their No Bake Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake (INR 150) made with tofu and vegan cheese.

Mon Petit Frere

Mon Petit is our favourite pit-stop on our way to the North from the South to parcel a fresh loaf of sourdough along with our fill of desserts. On days we’re taking a leisurely trip, we accompany our coffee with pancakes or a chocolate brownie but when we’re getting a takeaway, we tend to turn to their basque cheesecake or their decadent and gooey chocolate almond cake. Every so often they also experiment with desserts based on fresh produce or what the master baker feels like, so be sure to ask for specials.

Cafe LaDiDa

A little patisserie tucked behind Paper Boat Collective, this one is perfect for that weekend binge. Aside from making insanely delish cakes on order, it has a dessert counter that has us drooling over caramel and sea salt tarts and eclairs. If you’re a macaron and meringue kinda person, look no further and remember to grab a Kangra tea on your way out.

Also Check Out: Mona’s Pantry desserts that are available at On The Go - we recommend their Peruvian bread pudding and Alfajores.

Breaking Bread With Aaron

Breaking Bread is a new bakery-meets-cafe that’s got every foodie talking about. This cute spot lies away from the main Chogm Road and has become our go-to for a monthly fix of their fluffy Japanese cheesecake. They have a vast selection of bread and savoury snacks too but we’ll be doing everyone a disservice if we didn’t put in a special word for their sinful Nutty Corners and lemon tarts and mind you, all the desserts here are super affordable!

Babka

It’s hard to find a cafe that’s grown to be this popular and well-loved but again, Babka has stood the test of time by consistently delivering on killer coffee and excellent desserts. A place that’s always busy catering to an ever-growing queue of java and chocolate junkies, we recommend a visit here if you’re staying anywhere close to Anjuna/Vagator/Assagao. And what you must try? Their chunky choco cookies, eclairs, hot chocolate and errr… a warm slice of babka!

Padaria Prazeres

This cute-as-a-button, straight out of the streets of Europe patisserie has been all the rage recently. With a bright blue and yellow facade, not only does it score big on being a looker, it has some serious talent in the kitchen whipping up a storm. Needless to say, their baguettes are world-class but one cannot but look away from their star creation aka Pasteis De Nata (or what everyone calls a custard tart). Their madeleines and cinnamon rolls are *chef’s kiss* too.

Bakery Pausenbbrot

Think organic and authentic and you can’t miss Pausenbrot. This unique German bakery in South Goa (Benaulim, to be precise) is bringing fresh flavours from old German households to the sunshine state. All the cakes and savouries here are made from scratch and are free from preservatives so the real taste shines through in their muffins and tarts.
