It’s not just K-dramas that have got us drooling. It’s Korean food too! Until a few years ago, finding a Korean restaurant in the city was a major task. But, not anymore because the scene is completely different now. Many restaurants, cafes, food trucks, and eateries have opened up in the city serving absolutely delicious Korean food that will make you want to come back for more. Here are some of the best ones that you must visit if you’re a Korean food fanatic.
Hit Up These 8 Best Places In Town For Lip-Smacking Korean Food
King's Bakery
The first Korean bakery to open doors in the city has been winning hearts with its range of authentic Korean food. Head to King's to bulk up on all things Korean—kimchi, bibimbap, breads, stews, hotdogs, coffee, donuts, bowl meals, and pickles too! Run by Seok Jung (a trained barista from South Korea) and his wife Sojin Lee, King's is a paradise for Korean food lovers and has several branches across the city. Korean breads like Soboro, Mocha Bun, Red Bean bread, custard buns, and cheese and corn stuffed bread are things you can't miss out on.
Cafe Tov
This cafe-cum-restaurant has become popular among Korean food lovers in the city, in a pretty short span of time. Cafe Tov is a two-storied space serving mouthwatering Korean dishes and desserts. From Jjajangmyeon and kimbaps to bibimbaps and dak-galgi, Cafe Tov serves it all. The baked goodies and desserts, especially the Tiramisu Cake and Snow Bread, are to-die-for. We also love the Korean Hot Dog and White Custard Bread served here. They have very few options for vegetarians, but whatever they have is delicious (think Japchae made of sweet potato noodles, ramen, kimbaps, and rice cakes).
Sonamoo Restaurant
Yet another example of the city’s love affair with all things Korean, Sonamoo Restaurant is named after South Korea’s national pine tree and is the labour of love of founder Jeongsun Noh. Located on the third floor of Galaxy Market in New Town, this cozy and warm Korean restaurant serves classics like bibimbap, gujeolpan (must try!), japchae, and kimchi. Noh sources all her ingredients as well as the coffee beans and necessary crockery from South Korea. No wonder her food tastes like heaven!
Yum Yum Korean Bucket
Say hello to Kolkata’s first Korean food truck called Yum Yum Korean Bucket. Located on Jatin Bagchi Road, this yellow food truck serves lip-smacking Korean food that won’t burn a hole in your pocket. Gorge on corn dogs, crispy fried chicken (available in six flavours for as low as INR 99), ramen, dumplings, Korean Street Toast (must-try for vegetarians at just INR 69), kimchi salad, and boba milk tea. Gang-Jeong Chicken is a major hit among non-vegetarians, which makes it a must-have while you’re here.
Crunchilicious
Run by Vishakha Roy Choudhury, this Kolkata-based home kitchen serves some of the most scrumptious Korean dishes that you will ever taste. It’s one of the best places to order Korean food from if you wish to enjoy your meal within the comfort of your home. The Korean Chicken Wings, Bibimbap, Cantonese Prawn Toast, kimbaps (veg, fried chicken, pork, and spicy tuna), corn dogs (classic and cheese), and ramen bowls (spicy, cheesy, and seafood) are worth the money. The dishes are all decently priced too.
