Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day. And, we agree! Kick start your day with an omelette, eggs Benedict,  pancakes and more. Here are the best breakfast places in Pune where you can go and eat like a king.

Fat Cat's Cafe

Fat Cat’s Cafe in Wanowrie has a breakfast menu that they dish out starting at 8 am. The spread includes different styles of eggs: sunny-side up, scrambled, and stuffed omelettes; all of which are served with toast, sausages (chicken or pork) or hash browns. The menu also includes breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, smoothies, and desserts. Their fluffy ‘ooh la la’ omelette – stuffed with tomatoes, ham and cheese, two toasts, and two juicy-fried pork sausages – is a must-try. And, their churro pancakes, which are very indulgent are worth ordering too.

A meal for two at Fat Cat's Cafe will set you back INR 800. The cafe has free WiFi, indoor and outdoor seating and has a smoking area too.

The French Window Patisserie

Tucked away just off lane 5 in Koregaon Park, in a bungalow, The French Window Patisserie is a nice spot to grab breakfast. Choose from eggs-to-order, freshly baked croissants, Parisian-style Eggs Benedict, eggs on toast, pancakes (classic, and a healthy nachni-oat option as well), porridge, and granola bowls are available from 9.00 am, until 12.30 pm. For those who take their breakfast game seriously, we suggest trying their classic Parisian Eggs Benedict – a butter croissant served with poached eggs, smoked salmon, topped with Hollandaise sauce; while dessert lovers could partake in the apple-pie pancakes, and meat-lovers could enjoy their cheesy ‘meat-fest’ omelette with a side of toast and some salad leaves. Caffeine addicts will also appreciate their manual-made brews here, available in Aeropress, French-press, and pour-over. A meal for two at French Window would cost you around INR 700.

One O Eight Cafe

One O Eight may be an all-vegetarian Cafe, but what they lack in meat they certainly make up for, with flavour! Early risers will appreciate their opening time, and the choice of eats to start your day with. Breakfast bowls, eggs, veg preparations, and sides are available all-day; as are their delicious range of fresh cold-pressed juices (pink ginger is our fave) and fresh-brewed coffees.

We’ve tried nearly everything on their breakfast menu, and recommend you order the ‘big breaky’ (eggs made your way, with sides of roast veggies, hash browns, sweet chili sauce, and whole wheat toast), and the Croque Madame sandwich (made with brioche bread, gruyere béchamel, spinach, gruyere and mozzarella cheese, topped with a fried egg). Lighter options we love, include the smashed avocados on toast (topped with feta, lemon, olive oil, cherry tomatoes, and almond dukkah) and the ‘mushrooms on baguette’ (olive tapenade with sautéed mushrooms, feta, and rocket leaves). For something sweet, we suggest their house-made ricotta pancakes, with fresh seasonal fruit and spiced sugar syrup (gluten-free and egg-less options also available). A meal for two at One O Eight Cafe would cost you INR 800.

The Flour Works

Also an early-bird joint, The Flour Works in Kalyani Nagar opens from 7.00 am every day, with a European-American breakfast menu. Satiate your hunger with their 10 types of Eggs Benedict, eggs-to-order or stuffed omelettes, waffles/pancakes/French toast with 4 varieties of toppings (each), or go the healthy route with their diet-friendly options (muesli, granola, scrambled tofu, etc). Our favourites here include their light-and-fluffy pancakes with fresh fruit and honey; their mushroom-and-leek omelette, and their spring onion-and-bacon omelette (served with toast, potato wedges, and garlic tomatoes). Each serving is filling enough to put you in a food-coma and two people can gorge on delicious food for less than INR 1000, so choose wisely!

Chafa Café and Studio

Head over to this high-end health café to enjoy an indulgent breakfast. They serve super healthy breakfast bowls, smoothies, salads, sandwiches, pancakes, eggs and toast, fresh juices and coffee, and we recommend visiting this café in Koregaon Park when you’re in the mood for a breakfast date, or are in the mood for a breakfast meeting with your girls, colleagues or simply when you wish to spend some time with yourself before heading off to work. A for two here would cost you INR 1000.

The Irani Cafe

Looking for grabbing a quick, delicious bite before heading to work? Stop by at any of the Irani Cafes in the city and enjoy a scrumptious breakfast of eggs, toast and hot chai. They even make a fresh batch of mutton and kheema samosas every morning, and if you’re in the mood to indulge, you can feast like a king here without spending a bomb! A meal for two here would cost you INR 500.

Yezdan Café

If Irani Cafes are your jam, we suggest heading down to one of Pune’s oldest Irani cafes in Camp. A simple café with no added frills, Yezdan is seen buzzing at any time of the day, and has been a neighbourhood favourite for years. Head over early in the morning to enjoy a breakfast of egg bhurji, omelettes, jam-butter toast and a glass of their Irani tea. They even have cheese sandwiches on their menu. The best part? All this is super affordable as two people can eat here for less than INR 200.

Café Goodluck

Filled with customers at any given point of the day, Café Goodluck is a popular haunt for all those looking to enjoy a wholesome meal within a budget. Walk in to relish kheema, toast and chai early in the morning, or opt for a plate of their famous bun maska omelette.  A trip to this café on FC Road is worth waking up for! A meal for two here would cost you INR 300.

Kohinoor Café

Kohinoor Café on MG Road is one of the few places in the city that serve wholesome meals as early as 5am. Head over after a heavy night, or on an early morning, to enjoy cups of hot chai, eggs and wada pav. This is also one of the oldest Iranian cafes left in the country. Two people can feast here for less than INR 250.

This breakfast joint in Kothrud opens as early as 7:30am, and is a comfortable space for those looking at enjoying a breakfast date before starting the day. Order an English breakfast, a cup of foamy, rich coffee, and sit back to enjoy the morning. This restaurant is great for breakfast dates too. A meal for two would cost you INR 1000.
