Kolkata now boasts of another Coffee House where you can go and enjoy a cuppa at rates similar to the iconic one in College Street.
Located opposite Amity University in Action Area II, the New Town Coffee House looks like a mansion that can accommodate just over 90 people at once due to social distancing norms in place. The symmetrical facade, cast iron latticework, Corinthian columns will remind you of the architecture during British Raj. The interiors of the place are similar to the iconic one with ceiling fans and the verandah on the upper floor overlooking the activities and chaos of the ground floor. The ceiling's made of steel kori-borga while the floor has hexagonal tiles with a 3D effect. They've also got a library in one corner for all you readers and solo visitors. Plus, there's WiFi so you can easily sit and work.
The walls are innovatively done up with illustrations, posters and photographs inspired by the city's culture, literature, films and food. The menu is also similar to the College Street Coffee House - tea, coffee, sandwiches, omelette, toast, pakoda, fish finger, chowmein, chilli chicken and stuff. They've also got infusion or black coffee on the menu - again taken from the Coffee House in College Street.
We know old is gold. The charm of the iconic Coffee House will always stay but, hey, no harm in trying a new one, right?
