If you’re in Panjim, you have to check out Confeitaria 31 de Janeiro. A quaint little Portuguese cafe and bakery located close to the High Court of Bombay in Goa. This is a true gem located in the Latin Quarters and is one of our favourite pit-stops for quick, super affordable snacks-on-the-go.

What Makes It Awesome
Established in 1930 by André Mascarenhas, and now run by his granddaughter-in-law, Gletta Mascarenhas, and grandson Warren Mascarenhas, Confeitaria 31 Janeiro is a living testimony to the Goan-Portuguese culinary history. Tucked away in the vibrant lanes of the Latin Quarter of Fontainhas, Panaji, the venerable Confeitaria 31 de Janeiro is for everyone who not only loves the act of discovery when it comes to culinary delights, but also for folks who live for fresh-baked goods, Goan baked products, and simply indulging in food that's been passed down over generations.
The second you come into the vicinity of the place, you're transported into a warm sepia-toned space that feels like you're stepping into another realm altogether. The place is small, well decorated, and is stuffed with delicacies! The staff is warm, welcoming, and patient. We went here for the chorizo rolls and rum balls, and stayed for everything else!
They also do fresh-baked bread for which (if you're lucky) you might also wait for it to come out of the oven! Other than this, expect Swiss rolls, date, plum and walnut cakes which are to die for. What we also love about the place is that everything is super affordable too, with prices starting at INR 50.
On different occasions, we stopped by to pick up a loaf of bread or grab their beef patties for the road. They also stock up on quiches, chicken rolls, bibinca and other tidbits. These, though, run out pretty quickly, so your best bet is to head there in the morning.
