What Makes It Awesome
You’ve probably driven past this building numerous times and haven’t yet stopped to take a look. But Netaji Bhavan is definitely worth half an hour of your time. The museum and research centre is open to the public and is just INR 10 to enter and is free for kids.
Photography is not allowed inside but here are some things you should definitely look out for. Handwritten letters, personal belongings like slippers, garlands that were gifted to him, pictures of his wife and daughter and never-seen-before pictures of his travels are all on display. You can also see the belongings of his other family members including his brother Sarat Chandra Bose. Stand next to his strapping statue clad in signature army uniform and hear recordings of his voice.
The biggest attraction is Netaji’s great escape route – it is printed on the floor and leads to the original car he used to escape in {the car has been remodelled recently}. The museum will also give you interesting insights into India’s past – there are handwritten letters he sent to the British, and original newspapers that were published then.
Pro Tip
Only half the rooms are AC so pick a cool day to go. You can park across the road in Forum and walk down to the museum. The tour wont take more than half an hour.
