Andul Rajbari

The pillars of this enormous, ancient house, constructed in 1834 by Raja Rajnarayan Roybahadur, are its most remarkable feature. They still display the exquisite artwork of the British era. One of the greatest spots to take pictures is the open courtyard. The strong doors, the ceiling curves, and the checkered patterns are still there. With two Shiva temples constructed in the atchala style, the Annapurna Temple behind the palace is a quintessential example of Bengali architecture. The film Jalshanghar, a masterpiece from the 1950s directed by Satyajit Ray, was shot here, as was Kartik Chatterjee's Saheb Biwi Gulam, which was based on the same-titled Bengali novel by Bimal Mitra.

Dubbed the Victor Jubilee Palace, it offers a distinctive, royal environment for couples who want to venture beyond the clichéd destination wedding spots.
