What Makes It Awesome

Drive down to the iconic Hazarduari Palace in Murshidabad to take a peek at Mughal lifestyle and admire its grandeur and magnificent architecture.

Located around 200km from Kolkata, Hazarduari, as the name suggests, is a palace with 1000 embellished doors set in the backdrop of rural Bengal. Spread across a massive area of 41 acres on the banks of river Bhagirathi, hundreds of tourists flock here every year to get a glimpse of Nawabi lifestyle.

What sets this museum apart from others is that out of the 1000 doors, 900 doors are real while the remaining are fake ones, built to confuse the intruders. Spare an hour to admire the rich exhibits inside the museum - ranging from Nawab Siraj-ud-Doulah's prized possessions, swords and weapons, oil paintings of the Dutch, French and Italian artists, rare marble, porcelain and stucco statues to rare books and manuscripts and palanquins owned by the Nawabs. So make sure this palace is on your must-visit list of heritage places in Bengal.

What Could Be Better

The palace is in a bit dilapidated state and needs proper maintenance.
