In a mood to slip away far from the madding crowd? Just think about verdant hill slopes and plan a short trip to Kurseong. And when you're going there, make sure to get a stay experience at the iconic Kurseong Tourist Lodge.
Situated just a kilometre away from Kurseong station and the main market, this lodge is actually maintained and run by the West Bengal Tourist Development Corporation, which is now currently known as the Roudra Chhaya Tourism Property. So you will find government staff there and if you are going there after a log gap, you might end up seeing the same staff after 20-odd years.
The lodge has around 20 rooms across two levels below the reception, and there are rooms with balconies and without. All the rooms are facing the majestic Khangchendzonga and although few of the rooms might have obstructed views due to trees, we would say try to take the rooms with balconies at the far right end. When it's high season, Kurseong Tourist Lodge gets sold out first. The room tariff starts from INR 1,600 for a standard double bed.
Don't worry about your basic amenities because they have it all here and all the rooms here are wooden panelled, which keeps the room warm and cosy. But what you can't miss out on when you're here is to try their chicken or veg (depending on your preference) momos at least once, because they are popular in the hills and tried & tested by LBB. Just make sure you drop in before 8pm because that's when the restaurant closes. Steaming hot dumplings with a view of the mountains is just what you need to make your relaxation trip perfect.
