Situated 62 kilometres southwest of Pune near Raigad district, Madhe Ghat holds historical significance as the final resting place of the legendary Maratha warrior, Tanaji Malusare. Today, the area preserves its rich heritage with a sacred Shiva temple and Boratyachi Nal trekking route, offering a challenging adventure for enthusiasts.

What Makes It Awesome

Madhe Ghat, tucked away in the Western Ghats, is a serene retreat surrounded by lush greenery. The highlight of this spot is the magnificent Laxmi Waterfall, which plunges from 850 meters above sea level. From its vantage point, you can enjoy views of historic forts like Raigad and Lingana, along with the stunning landscapes of Varandha Ghat and Shivthar Ghal.

If you go down the ghat, the road will lead to a forest trail. Walk a few kilometres and you will reach a small jackfruit plantation patch in a village. We have learnt that the villagers are courteous and will let you taste it and take a couple of jackfruits.

Madhe Ghat Waterfall is a perfect one-day getaway and a haven for adventure seekers and hiking enthusiasts. The Madhe Ghat trek is fairly simple since it completely descends down a valley. For those looking to escape the weekend hustle, it’s a peaceful retreat away from traffic, pollution, crowds, and the chaos of city life.

How To Reach Madhe Ghat

There are two routes to reach Madhe Ghat from Pune–either through Pabhe Ghat or by the NH-4 highway. We suggest you drive through Pabhe Ghat, simply because of the panoramic views of the Khadakwasla Dam, Donje Phata, and the small villages of Khanapur, Velhe, and Kelad. Since the place is untapped with few explorers and trekkers visiting it once a while during monsoon, the condition of the roads is not quite good. It’s a muddy route that reaches the waterfall.

Tips For Visiting

Explore the waterfall area with caution as the rocks can be slippery during monsoon. Avoid going too close to the edge and take necessary precautions. Admire its beauty from a safe distance. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes. Also, if you plan to stay near the location, there are several accommodations like Toranmachi Resort and Suman Farms.

Best Time To Visit

The ideal time to visit Madhe Ghat Waterfall in Pune is during the monsoon season, from July to September, when the waterfall is at its most impressive with a peak water flow.
