Going through a creative block? Head over to Coffee O’ Kobita for some coffee and literary inspiration and have your writings put up on their wall.

Chow Down

Need a place for some me time or for a tightly-knit intellectual adda with friends? Coffee O’ Kobita is the place to do both. Spread across two floors (the one on top being the more spacious one), the theme of this café is Kolkata- the interiors depict the city, the skyline, the cultural pioneers like Ray et al. The top floor is almost entirely Feluda themed, with his novellas stacked along the shelves. We loved how quirky the menu card was the outer cover made it look like an old newspaper which was filled with information about Kolkata, the Shyambazar area, Rabindranath Tagore and everything that is signature Bengali. Oh, and it’s a bookworm’s paradise – they have shelves full of books (and board games too) lest someone gets bored.

The ambience is calm and quiet, especially if you sit in the ground floor. The top floor is better when you’re in groups.

The menu has all the continental favourites- pastas, meat platters, chello kabab, sandwiches, burgers, alakiv, fish and chips etc ranging around INR 200-250. We particularly like the chello kabab – it’s light, well-cooked and appetising and reasonably priced at INR 250. This café is also very well known for its chicken Sicilian {INR 260} which is a must try for cheese lovers.

Sip On

As the name suggests, this is a coffee lover’s paradise. You have a variety of brews to choose from including espresso, lavazza, and even hot chocolate if you’re having a particularly bad day. If the day is hot, there are chillers to cool you down as well including virgin mojito and blue curacao. Brownie points for serving them in cute mason jars!

Anything Else?

Apart from the nostalgic décor and calm ambience, we love the friendly staff. After you’re done with your meal, they offer you a notebook to compose and pen down any small literary piece {if you want to} which they put up in what they call their ‘wall of fame’. It also has a ton of in-house merchandise like coffee cups and vintage kettles – great buys if you wish to take home souvenirs.

The pocket pinch for eating at the café is not much, say around INR 500 for two, which is perfect for a pocket-friendly date or a post-college adda.
