Ever wanted to get a shirt or kurta stitched to perfection, something that fits you well with shoulders and sleeves that do not hang? Something that doesn’t feel like it has  been tailored for someone else’s body? Head to Padma Tailors on Rashbehari Avenue, a tiny tailoring outfit that has been around for more than 65 years  - they have customers whose dads came here. It is next to the Tirthapati Institution near the crossing on Rashbehari Avenue. Walk from Deshapriyo Park crossing (hugging the pavement opposite Priya cinema).

Check out the just-finished shirts quaintly displayed in an old glass showcase outside the shop. Mostly in checks and stripes in almost every pastel shade imaginable, they have impeccable stitching details and well-crafted collars. The masterji at Padma – Biswanath Das – has been working here for decades and will happily give you advice and match the stitching colour impeccably to the pattern of your shirt.

The space tends to be slightly cramped, so you have to edge your way around. 

They can do a number of styles which can be personalised to your measurements. They also do pants and suits. They charge INR 250 for basic shirts. trousers are for INR 350+. These can go up depending on the design you want.
