Gurne Leather Store in Candolim Market (three or four stores before the turning for Radisson Candolim) has bags so beautiful, you won’t believe they’re handmade. The collection ranges from backpacks and laptop bags to totes and slings.
The shop owner, Sameer, is a great lad, who’ll help you pick out the perfect bag, guide you through the aftercare of the bags (since most products are leather and suede), and is open to a bargaining match. They’ve also got wallets and jackets, which are worth a look.
If you’re someone who buys into the ethics of leather goods, then this store should give you great options, and at reasonable prices, too. The bags start somewhere around 1000 bucks, pretty good for leather.
Sameer informed me that they only source the leather from butcheries, and use fallen animal leather only. It didn’t convince me as much as it did my mom, but if you don’t have that kind of an issue, then check it out.
