For an area like Wakad where the concept of fine dining is a rarity, Mooie Cafe comes as a breath of fresh air. To keep things straight, it's not exactly fine-dine albeit it's not your run-of-the-mill cafe either. Café Mooie by Kunal Giramkar stands somewhere in between - a spectacular ambience that'll remind you of an old-school bistro on the cobbled streets of Denmark.
The interiors, by Environs and The Placet, have many moods - while one side represents a quaint sidewalk cafe, another corner looks like the cosiest, most romantic luncheon date spot against misty, glassy panes. Not to forget, the plush dessert bar that displays the decadent sweet treats of the day and the spacious central area with white-painted furniture that is ideal for large groups. The colour play, on the other hand, is an eclectic mix of basic greys on the walls, pop of canary yellow and duck-egg blue on the seating, forest green on the planters, rustic brown on the furniture, and more. In simple words, Mooie Café is a work of pure delight.
Speaking of delight, the food out here is nothing short of art. The dishes, we hear, are carefully conceptualised and curated by the talented duo, chef Siddharth of Le Plaisir and chef Shailendra of German Bakery and Sante Spa Cuisine. What we loved the most is that every dish is phenomenally plated and looks magnificent to the sore eyes. For starters, we tried the crispy lamb escalopes, smeared in hot and sweet chilli, and spring onion sauce. The dish had a mouthful of sweetness and tanginess, and the meat added a nice crunch to it.
We ordered Asian fish en papillote and penne in jalapeño cream and chicken sauce for our main course. While our fish was absolutely melt-in-mouth and had freshness in flavours from the lemon basil rice and Thai herbs, the chicken pasta, on contrary, was missing the hints of jalapeño and spice we were looking for. Nonetheless, it does account for good soul-satisfying comfort food on a rainy afternoon.
In the end, for desserts, we tried one of the creamiest cheesecakes of all time - the classic baked New York cheesecake with raspberry coulis, milk chocolate stick, mango purée, and mint leaves. However, if you're into chocolates and don't mind subtle notes of coffee in your dessert, must try the double chocolate brownie with Bailey's Irish ice cream.
What's more? We hear Mooie Café is all set to introduce an alcohol menu by July, and the cocktails will be something to look forward to. For updates, follow their Facebook page here: {https://www.facebook.com/MooieCafeAndBar/%7D.?utm_source=LBB&ref=lbbpost
