The Vegetable is a (you guessed it) vegetarian, vegan-friendly, multi-cuisine restaurant that’s just opened up on Fergusson College Road. Open for all-day dining, this casual eatery should be your next pit-stop for fresh, summer-friendly food.

Tell Me More

The Vegetable was started by Hrishikesh Baravkar and Shashank Shirole, who wanted to bring a new concept to this part of town, and is nearly a month old. Housed in a heritage property (which dates back to the 1950s) that has seen its fair share of restaurants and catering companies, The Vegetable has been done up while retaining some of that old-world charm. The original door and windows are still in place, and the furniture is an assortment of vintage and contemporary European-style chairs – inspired by the co-founders’ trips abroad. Muted earth tones of deep green, warm browns, and sunshine-yellow throughout the interiors of the restaurant befit the theme of ‘vegetables’ ideally – giving it an inviting vibe. Keeping in mind their audience of families with kids and young adults (students), the menu here is an eclectic mix of cuisines – so there’s something for everyone. Their vast menu spans global-inspired appetizers, mini plates, house-made pasta (gnocchi, ravioli, tortellini), salads, mains, thin-crust pizza, and tofu items (for vegans). There’s also an Indian and Oriental menu for those who like to play it safe, and last but not least – indulgent desserts! Try their PFC salad (pear, fig, feta cheese), khuboos (a leavened bread stuffed with cheese and veggies), mezze platter, pyaaz ki sabzi (made with baby onions), coco choco cheesecake (white chocolate and coconut cheesecake) and the gulabjam-rabdi parfait, to wind up your meal on a sweet note. For refreshments – pick from their list of fruity mocktails, thick shakes, and iced teas to beat the heat.

So, We're Saying...

This 90-seater property is ideal for a quick bite to eat, or a laid-back lunch. Veggies are the star here, and there are plenty of options for even the fussiest eaters to choose from. We like the variety – it means you’ll always have something new to try. They will also be opening a coffee bar/cafe in a space at the back of the property, which will serve delicious coffee, pastries, and assorted eats – so stay tuned for that.
