This 200-Year-Old Library At Camp Has The Largest Collection Of English Fiction Novels

Established in the year 1818, United Services Library {USL} inside Poona Club Compound, has the largest collection of English fiction novels in the city; boasting of over 50,000 books across all genres and story-telling forms.

Nothing at all! In fact, USL has a sort of erstwhile rustic touch to its appearance. The wooden furniture; the long ceiling fans; racks full of books, old and new; some with torn yellow pages and some with nice and glossy covers - this place is a book lover's safe haven.

Surprisingly, we found novels we never expected would be available - the 1961 novel, The Carpetbaggers by Harold Robbins, Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, The Sound and The Fury, David Baldacci's No Man Island and much more.

The best part about United Services Library is it's open seven days a week, between 9.30 am and 8.30 pm. Go there anytime, sit at one secluded corner and read to your heart's content!

If you're a non-Poona club member, you have to pay INR 1,600 for a yearly membership. All subscribers have to pay a deposit of INR 3,000 which is refundable once your membership expires.

You can donate a sum of INR 25,000 {or more} to the library, in order to become a lifetime member. However, the full and final decision depends on the Committee.

You can take up to four books at a time for a period of one month. If you fail to return them on time, a fine of INR 3/day will be levied.
