What Makes It Awesome

This B&B is straight out of a dreamy picture. A newly restored colonial home nestled in the quiet neighbourhood of Swinhoe Street and tucked under the shade of a mango tree, Ivy House is the place to be if you’re thinking of a charming and tranquil staycation.

Much like its cousin up in the hills, Cochrane Place (the old British country house in Kurseong that we couldn’t rave enough about), Ivy House is an old colonial home that the Aroras (who own both properties) have restored and turned it into a charming B&B.

This place radiates charm from every nook and cranny - from the ivy-laden gate and large wooden doors with lion head knockers to the private courtyard and red brick and white exteriors that stay cool under the shade of an old mango tree. The colonial bungalow with its Portuguese floor tiles, stone wall interiors, antique furniture and ceramic plates decking the walls is a time capsule that will definitely take you back in time.

A slice of corridor separates the four antique-styled rooms of this place. Named after tuberose, marigold, carnation and lotus, the rooms truly encapsulates the essence of the flowers in their decor and furnishings. The bigger rooms (Tuberose and Lotus) come with vintage four-poster Bangla beds. Marigold and Carnation come decked with minimalist antique furniture and vintage Bombay beds. The rooms are stocked with modern amenities and comforts, but the vintage bric-a-bracs like the mother-of-pearl almirah and an old Rajasthani jharokha sings of old world charm.

Tuberose and Lotus are available for INR 4,500, Marigold and Carnation is  INR 4,000 each.

Pro-Tip

Breakfast comes complimentary with your stay and you can choose to enjoy it in the charming little gazebo-styled tea room of Karma Kettle that overlooks the B&B. Alternately, you can explore the neighbourhood – it’s full of popular restaurants, cafes and stores.
