Pune, a city steeped in history and known for its vibrant art scene, has recently welcomed a new gem to its cultural landscape: Vesavar Art Gallery. Nestled within the walls of a 150-year-old heritage building, Vesavar highlights a diverse range of contemporary artwork from both emerging and established artists.
The story of Vesavar Art Gallery begins with a vacant heritage building that dates back to 1873. Situated in the heart of Pune, this architectural gem stood as a silent witness to the city's evolution. Recognising the potential of this historical structure, Kavita Bhandari and artist Pranali Harpude, founders of the gallery, embarked on a mission to transform it into a contemporary art space that would pay homage to its rich past.
The restoration process was carried out with utmost care and attention to detail by architect Sandeep Shah. Every architectural element, from the wooden staircase to the high ceilings with intricate wooden panels, was meticulously preserved to maintain the building's historical integrity. The result is a 1,500 sq. ft space that exudes a natural depth and character, providing a perfect backdrop for the showcased art.
The primary focus of the space is to showcase the finest contemporary art from talented artists from the country. From paintings and sculptures to mixed media installations, visitors will get a visual feast that sparks conversation and inspiration.
