An interesting collaboration between art, living, decor and lifestyle, hidden away in an offbeat part of North Goa titled Morjim. A hidden gem which is set to bedazzle your heart and bring out the hippie in you, promoting the idea of a slow lifestyle, joyful living filled with inspiration and fostering creativity, Artist Cottages is likely to charm you and transform your life into one filled with calm, serenity, truthful living, being honest to yourself and making the most out of Goa beaches.
A space designed to foster creative thinking
It is at a 2 minute walk from Morjim beach making it idyllic for all travellers who want to spend more time on beach beds, creating sandcastles, surfing, jet skiing, exploring beach shacks and the hippie part of Goa, any more than they want to spend in the hotel room. I reached the cottage in style with a book in hand to find myself, but i found that the cottage already had a great collection of fiction, non fiction, biographies, politics, economics and some art genres curated and stocked at the lobby, ready for all art inspirers and appreciators of the written word. Magically, I found a limited edition book on the shelf which I picked up and decided to read.
What I loved even more about the property was the fact that there was no television, it made me cut off from watching news or staying aware of the world, it transported me closer to a zone of focusing on my mind, body, health and on things I wouldn't normally be able to think about in the city. I felt cozy without the daily newspaper which would have otherwise made me think about work. The property is a dream for hippie living, it's everything which comes out of a movie. If anyone has watched the recent movie "Malang" which translates to vagabond, and you want to live in a similar cottage to the movie, this is the place for you.
The rooms were so beautiful with low lying curtains which made the softest movements in the room feel insanely beautiful. Different paintings adorned all the walls, of each room, making it look like it was crafted with insane care and abstractness which fit right into the Goa vibe.
I went to the beach shack right near the hotel which had neon lights and at night, a moon so beautiful reflecting golden in the waters. While at the shacks, I had loads of my favourite Goan rum called "Cabo". What I am attracted to most about the drink is the carefully crafted bottle which looks like a beach. It's a metaphor to me when I stand on the beach and drink from the bottle because it looks like I'm drinking the beach.
Morjim is the place where most foreigners visit because of the ease of living, slow life, beautiful yet safe beach shacks, countless boats, waves suitable for surfing and so much more. There's also a night market which I was fortunate enough to explore, it was relatively offbeat and I had never heard of it before. It was 20 minutes from the Artist cottages and it had some crazy cheap things. I found clothes, Goan bongs, pendants made from shells, door handles, antique clocks, second copy digital products and even some stolen goods. There was live music which made it feel like I lived my hippie dream. The hotel offered me the opportunity to learn more about the lesser known part of Goa, the offbeat, the calm.
The sunset in Morjim can be best enjoyed by the beach at the LR Beach lounge which is a 2 minute walk from the property. With stunning interiors which look classy and elegant and a well designed outdoor area, the place is idyllic for couples, families, honeymooners and friends alike. The food was to die for, nothing like the typical beach shacks. The variety makes it comparable to any other popular restaurant, I'd say the food beats Thalassa. I especially loved their pizza, arancini balls, pina colada and their greek salad. I sipped on my gin and tonic while I watched the sun melt away into the Arabian Goan sea from the beach lounge.
The rooms made me reflect more on my life but also created a space where I could spend my leisure time. I relaxed in the room while enjoying a game of cards with my friends, something I wouldn't usually do had there been a television in the room. Walking on the warm sand by the sea and dipping my leg in the ocean whenever I wanted had given my mind the capacity to think again, be creative, roam around free and boundless, no fears attached. It was a feeling, Morjim was a vibe, Artist cottages was the inspiration.
