Heading to Goa for the first time? Get ready for sun-kissed beaches, a vibrant nightlife, and delectable seafood! What we love about Goa is how easily one can bmbrace the local culture, try water sports, and also explore hidden gems all in one go!

Here are 15 things to keep in mind while visiting Goa for the first time in addition to remembering to pack your sun-screen and of course a laid back attitude.

Goa Miles

You know Goa’s got no Uber or other platforms. So, to get around conveniently we suggest downloading the Goa Miles app. It's Goa's official taxi service by GTDC where you can choose from hatchbacks, sedans, or even SUVs. It's not everywhere yet, but it's perfect for airport rides with affordable, local drivers.

Spots Near The Airports

Looking to pass time near Dabolim airport? Head to Joets on Bogmalo beach or explore Vasco city. We highly recommend not missing out on the sunrise at Hollant Beach. However, if you're at Mopa airport in the North, Earth Mama and other spots have got you covered.

Rent Your Own Vehicle

If you do not want to rely on public transport, or get a driver to help you go around Goa, then you can always rent a car or scooter hassle-free from places like Viegas Car Rental or Joeys Car Rental. With a huge fleet from Swifts to Mercedes, they're your go-to! They offer super friendly service, doorstep delivery, and are easy on the wallet.

Dress Appropriately

In Goa, it's perpetual summer vibes so always opt for breezy cotton outfits to keep cool. Don't forget your swimsuit for the beach! And in case of adventures, leave the loose shoes, scarves and expensive jewellery behind in your room.

Hop On Hop Off Bus

You know Goa now has its own Hop On Hop Off buses, just like in other awesome places around the world. Starting from Panjim, they run every half hour on two routes – red and blue through the day and early night. Explore temples, churches, and Chapora up north. It's super fun, affordable, and eco-friendly!

Goan Vegetarian Food

Don’t believe the stereotype! Goa isn't just about non-veg grub. You can always dive into the veggie paradise at places like Cafe Tato, that have amazing local breakfasts and thali lunches. If you're craving snacks then head to Goan Kitchen's.

Experience The Culture

Explore a different side of Goa beyond its famed beaches and parties by diving into cultural delights like Sounds From Goa, MadraGoa shows, or The Floating Feni Tour. Indulge in local arts, savour forgotten recipes, and pair them with drinks for an unforgettable experience.

Reserve Well In Advance

Goa's buzzing scene keeps getting hotter. So if you're eyeing the best of seats at The Barfly in Assagao or those hammocks at Pisco By The Beach in Anjuna, better dial ahead and snag your spot before you're forced to wait for a table for hours on end.

Shop Local

One of the best places to visit in Goa especially if it's your first time is to head to this that's always haven bursting with treasures to snatch up! Swing by Goa Collective Bazaar or Zero Posro for goodies galore. There are handmade gems, locally sourced spices – you name it, they've got it!

Carry Your Own Bottle

Remember to keep this sunny state of Goa pristine while you are a guest here. Whether you are just sightseeing or on an adventure you are going to be sipping a lot of water to beat the heat. So skip the plastic bottles and bring your own refillable one. Swing by any restaurant or a cooler in a public space for a top-up.

Follow Beach Rules

Goan beaches are awesome because Drishti lifeguards keep everybody safe. Monsoon can shake things up; so, they pop red flags for all the beach goers. Remember to always respect the rules and lifeguards for your own sake.

Goan Food And Drinks

When you're in Goa, you've got to dive into the seafood scene — fresh fish and prawn thalis are a must! Check out Bombil and Ritz for starters. In addition to these you can also Swing by Chef Peter’s Kitchen and Bhatti Village for more local delicacies. And oh, don't forget to sip on Neero, Urrak, and Feni that are local drinks you won't want to miss.

Walking And E bikes Tours

Explore the breathtaking scenery of Goa through its captivating walking and E-bike tours with Soul Travelling, Blive and many more. From bustling markets to tranquil villages, each step unveils hidden treasures and local charms. Let the salty breeze lead you through winding alleys and ancient churches, promising endless discoveries.

Local Language

While English is an easily understood language in Goa it will never hurt to learn a few Konkani words to help you out. This is very useful especially when you head to local markets and shops where not everyone would know or understand English all the time.

Houses Of Goa

Goa's houses are stunning, they come in Portuguese, Goan, and modern styles, each with its unique tale. So if you're a home decor/ architecture fanatic then you're in for a treat! However, do be mindful to respect their privacy and cleanliness as you explore. You can always kick off your adventure at the Houses Of Goa Museum to delve deep into their fascinating stories and architecture.
