Goa may be known for its parties and beaches, but did you know that you could also visit plenty of islands around? They are accessible via bridges, boats and even by wading through knee-deep waters. Easier than you were imagining, right? These make a great trip away from a trip. The Goa islands offer snorkelling spots, dolphin views, homely meals, stays in Portuguese-style houses and so much more away from the crowds that you just cannot miss. From the famous Divar islands to the lesser-known Anjediva island, here is a comprehensive list of islands here in Goa that are sure to take your breath away!

Divar Island

You can visit the Divar Island located on the Mandovi River, which is only a ferry ride away from Old Goa. The island boasts scenic beauty, lush greenery, and old Portuguese houses that are a delight to explore. Stay at the Mercure Devaaya Resort, eat at a local home, explore a 17th century step well, catch the views of the church and surroundings from the hill, the things to do at this island are plenty. You can take up a walking tour, an E-bike trail or just ride around, especially during the rains when the island comes to greenish life. The quaint villages and historic churches of the Divar island are a perfect window into Goa's rich cultural heritage. If you are around there during Carnival, check out the Potekar's festival and if much later then the Bonderam.

Chorao Island

Chorao Island is another one located in the Mandovi River and an absolute must-visit for nature lovers and history buffs alike. Heard of the board walk in a Goan sanctuary? The island is home to exactly that at the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, a beautiful reserve that houses mangroves as well as a wide range of exotic and rare birds. Filled with Portuguese-style houses, a whole lot of greenery and stunning scenery, a trip to this island is ideal for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

Vanxim Island

Looking for a lesser-known Goa island to escape the crowds? Vanxim Island located in the backwaters of Goa is a true haven of peace and tranquillity. The island's lush greenery and beautiful mangrove forests are a perfect backdrop for bird watching, cycling, and hiking. While you are there you have to check out the quaint houses, ancient temples and savour some delicious sea food, which is fresh from the surrounding waters. The Vanxim experience will leave you jaw dropped.

Sao Jacinto Island

Located in the Zuari River, you have definitely seen this one while heading from Dabolim Airport to anywhere north of Goa or back. This tiny island is connected by the bridge from the mainland. I have heard that you have to befriend a local to explore this island. There is a tavern you have to stop by for drinks at and check out the chapel that has stunning river views. My favourite thing to do is to catch the sunset from the connecting bridge and munch on some snacks. What will be yours?

Grand Island

Is adventure always on your mind? Does the thought of snorkelling, diving and fishing get you excited? Well, you can do it all at the Grand Island, located off the coast of Vasco da Gama. So close to the Dabolim Airport, the island is famous for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and coral reefs. It also has a natural lagoon, which is the perfect place to relax and unwind while enjoying the incredible views. So, are you looking forward to some hidden beaches of Grand Island, providing a quiet escape from the crowds, already?

Canacona Island

Nicknamed as Conco Island, this one is located near the northern tip of the Palolem beach in South Goa. It is heavily populated with monkeys, which is where it gets its other name. The island can be reached by simply wading through waters or swimming when the tide goes low. Ever visited an island like that before? You also get to see the stunning rocky coastline of the Palolem beach as well as Dolphins jumping out of the water on your lucky day!

Anjediva Island

Have you heard of this Goa Island that's located closer to the coast of Karnataka but falls under the jurisdiction of Goa? Anjediva island is surrounded by crystal-clear waters and is home to a vast expanse of untouched natural beauty, including sandy beaches, lush greenery, and an ancient lighthouse. Rich in history, you can feel centuries-old vibes as you explore the ruins of the Portuguese fort and the St. Francis of Assisi church. Anjediva Island is also a great spot for diving and snorkelling, with a vibrant underwater world waiting to be explored.
