What Makes It Awesome
The restaurant, despite being located right at the beginning of Chapora, feels quite otherworldly - away from the chatter and the street feeling that Chapora so seamlessly embodies, Sakana is like this island of tranquility. It starts right from the moment you enter , as you cross the wooden bridge towards the main restaurant, it is like you are being physically transported into another world - one in which delicious Japanese food, and Japanese hospitality greets you.
Goa, despite being a melting pot of very many cultures, does not have enough restaurants that serve authentic Asian cuisine - Sakana is therefore our go-to when we are looking for some great Japanese food! The food here is beyond delectable , a combination of Japanese street food and main course dishes. Our favourites include the beef teriyaki, tender beef soaked in and cooked in teriyaki sauce served with sticky rice and mizo soup (which is just as delicious hot, as it is cold!). Infact the mizo soup and the sticky rice, are accompaniments for most course meals here (the beef or tofu yakinuki being another of our favourites).
The sushi here is great too, and our recommendation would definitely be the California sushi rolls with avocado.
Is any mention of a Japanese dinner complete without Sake? So of course, at Sakana they also serve some delicious tasting Sake. It is the traditional drink, which they serve cold (you can order it both hot or cold, though in tropical weather conditions like in Goa, it is best consumed cold), in beautiful ceramic decanters and shot glasses. And just in case you are not too used to Sake, remember it's quite a heady drink, but definitely give it a shot.
