Watch Your Roll Being Prepped at Kusum
Piping hot rolls with flaky paranthas, stuffed with chicken and laden with sauces, onions and toppings – some of the best rolls in the city are found at Kusum. Stand and watch as the cooks expertly portion out the rolls, roll it out and cook the meat – the synchronisation will leave you spell-bound. And then, of course, chomp down.
The View From Bar-B-Q
If you want a bird’s eye view of the main Park Street crossing, ask for a table at the side in Bar-B-Q. Enjoy a relatively cheap Chinese meal in one of Kolkata’s most iconic restaurants while overlooking the action on the street below. The view is as pretty in the day as it is in the twinkling night.
Photography At Park Street Cemetery
A photographer’s haven, the Park Street Cemetery is home to graves dating as far back as the 1700s. The gothic-style architecture, intricately engraved tombstones, the epitaphs set among lush greenery will have you reaching for your camera. In the monsoons, the grass and trees are greener, making for intensely-coloured backgrounds.
Breakfast At Flurys
Another iconic Kolkata activity, you have to come early if you want a seat at the breakfast service {which starts at 7:30 am!} at Flurys. They serve bacon, hash browns, sausages and so much more. No better way to kick start your morning than with a strong cup of tea and an English breakfast here.
Beer and Steak At Oly Pub
One of the few {and best} places left that serve a juicy beef steak, head to Oly Pub for some cheap eats and drinks. The beer comes at a bargain price of INR 100 a pint – talk about a steal deal! Don’t expect much in terms of ambience and service – this age-old place is all about the beer and beef.
Live Music At Trincas
The home of live music in Kolkata Trincas is known for kick-starting succesful musicians careers {including Usha Uthups!} Hindi beats are played until 9 pm after which English retro tracks make their way in to the line up. There are a fair number of families who also visit so you have a crowd which ranges from 15 to 85 years old! Enjoy drinks and the food but go mostly to let the band take you away with their tracks which will give you major throwback feels.
#LBBTip
The traffic and parking is always a pain on Park Street so it’s better to use a cab.
