What Makes It Awesome

Not many people know about Bangladesh-based designer Bibi Russell. She is the one who first tweaked the humble gamchha and made it into a high-end wardrobe item. Since then, several people have given the gamchha a do-over. We discovered one local label Gootipoka which is creating clothing based on Bengal's humble handloom towel.

Gootipoka is a home-based label run by Amrita Banerjee whose collection reflects different colour combinations. We love her blouses and kurtis for both casual as well as special occasions. What we liked most is the range of dresses which comes in shift style. They also have a limited variety of tops - from cropped to spaghetti strap ones. Pair them with a denim or loose khaki pants and you're good to hit up the hot days. They also offer jackets which can be worn over a simple kurta or dress.

This brand also does men's fashion - check out the gamchha patterned ones or try their comfy kurtas.

You can opt for customised creations as well, depending on requirement. To place an order call them or contact them on their Facebook page. The price for kurtis and dresses starts at an economical rate of INR 650 while blouses are placed at the starting point of INR 500.

What Could Be Better

We wish they were more active on social media platforms.

Pro-Tip

They have a khadi cotton collection you should check out, ideal if you're staying on the hotter side of the country.
