This one is extra extra special as we are bringing Menwhopause to Kolkata for the first time and we are dong a Jamsteady X TJE gig for the first time Pheonix Bar/Club. Making special arrangement for this one :)
Over the past year, menwhopause has played many gigs around India and internationally, touring with their new album titled- Neon Delhi.
Neon Delhi is a Live Visuals set, taking the narrative of the album forward, and has received a fantastic response, significantly at the Kochi Muziris Biennale, SXSW Festival (Austin, Texas) and Kwala Festival (Reunion Island), to name a few, this year.
About menwhopause:
menwhopause is a critically acclaimed band from New Delhi. The band has been active for over 15 years having toured India, Europe and USA extensively. A forerunner in the DIY ethic of the independent music industry, menwhopause has released three albums till date. Their latest, Neon Delhi, is a concept album featuring collaborations and noise samples from the streets of Delhi.
About the album:
“Neon Delhi is set in a city from the future. Or maybe the past. No one knows really. Apart from that, the music has changed, buildings have changed, sounds on the streets have changed... even the drugs have changed. Neon Delhi is not what it used to be.”
Partly mixed by Grammy Award nominated Victor Van Vugt (music producer for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and Beth Orton). The band calls the new album “more of a soundtrack really, to a short story or film, rather than an album.” And Neon Delhi is this noir story set in a Delhi from the near future.
The band for this album has collaborated with some stellar musicians as diverse as a jazz pianist from U.S.A., Grant Richards and renowned Kamancha trio from Rajasthan, GFD of Sakar Khan’s lineage, apart from the poet-novelist Jeet Thayil and a YouTube sensation from New Delhi called FAADU rapper.

"What is Delhi but a delicious melee; a spectacle of sights and sounds and smoke and scatterama? It is this extreme and endearing city that comes alive in all its dirt and darkness in menwhopause’s new piece of work—an ode to our times. A tribute to the Capital of chaos."

"So much music out there is innately linked to the place it's made in, the immediate socio-politic and cultural stimulants serving as inspiration to the artists, and Neon Delhi seems to take its cues from the many eccentricities of Delhi"

“On a Boat” showcases the once hipster district at its claustrophobic, seediest, dank best—drugs, surreal frames and the reminder that once you’re in too deep, there’s no escaping HKV. Let’s not forget this is easily the darkest party anthem you’ll hear this year.
