What Makes It Awesome
We have always drawn serious fashion lessons from the Northeastern states of India and we found a spot right in Kolkata where you get the blend of style inspired from traditional Naga wraparound skirts with the comfort of homespun cotton cloth.
Saaybana, a fashion hub, located on Bompas Road (near Southern Avenue swimming pool) is a creation by Debarati Gupta, Anushee Malhotra and Sonali Bhattacharya. This quirky, teal-coloured store has an amazing variety of apparel starting from handloom sarees, slit kurtis that comes with front pockets , cotton scarves, handmade wallets and accessories under one roof. Every clothing item is made out of khadi along with an array of intricate detailing and colours to choose from. We totally love their fish scale and classic marbling designer sarees along with some colour blocked ones which is so on-trend.
Best of all, we found some wraparound skirts with the traditional colour scheme of Nagaland but made out of khadi for more comfort as the authentic skirt is woven out of thick woolen material suitable for the chilly hills. This deconstructed skirt is way more adaptive to the humidity of Kolkata. you can pair it up with an in-house blouse that's available separately or team it up with your regular tops to call it a day. We recommend trying their jewelries made out of beads along with the skirt of your choice for a Bohemian feel.
While the wrap-around skirts starts at a price point of INR 2,000, you can get most of the things in the store within INR 3,000.
