What Makes It Awesome

Since the 1960s, Ajanta Circus in Kolkata has been synonymous with a legacy cultural and entertainment institution. Abdul Aziz established it with merely INR 5,000, and it has now successfully become the biggest and grandest circus in Eastern India. It now consists of a strong team of creative individuals, including a troupe of 300 people, including gymnasts and musicians from various parts of the world.

To everyone's surprise, Abdul Aziz is still a very prominent part of the circus. Even today, he steps onto the stage to perform eye-catching juggling sets to start the show or joins the flying trapeze, which is the end piece of the show, probably one of everyone's favourites. Even though the history of this extravagant circus has been turbulent, it has successfully adapted itself to the newer government norms of banning the participation of any sort of animal or bird. It is now run by the sheer magic and talent of its creative human power.

Currently, the circus has about 42 artists on board. They have their crowd-favourite ringmaster, Bijay, who has over 40 years of experience and performs as a clown and juggler. Back when animals were allowed to participate, he trained them, including tigers, lions, bears, birds, and many more. As of now, they have three shows running regularly—a morning show, an evening show, and a night show.

Timing: Matinee Shows starts at 1 PM, evening shows start at 4 PM, and night shows start at 7 PM.

Google Rating: 3.7/5

Price: INR 150 for a super circle seat, INR 100 for a prime circle, and INR 70 for a common circle.

Pro-Tip

The circus business is a dying art, and Ajanta Circus is not oblivious to that. Still, to preserve this art form for the upcoming years, they organise the shows even without any profit in an attempt to keep the art alive. Their popular performance, Trapeze, is sure to bring a smile to your face, so don't forget to get your kids along.
