Anime Lovers! Here Is A List Of Films Which Will Leave You With Mixed Emotions
Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name)
5 Centimetres Per Second
This Japanese romantic drama is another masterpiece by director Makoto Shinkai, and is just one hour long. But this one hour is going to be one of the most emotionally draining as you experience both joy and sorrow at the same time. The movie is divided into three short stories and goes through three phases of the life of the protagonist. One more reason to watch it? The film won the 2007 Asia Pacific Screen Award for Best Animated Feature Film.
A Silent Voice
A Silent Voice is a multiple award-winning animated film, including the Japanase Movie Critics Award for Best Animated Feature Film. The film beautifully portrays the subject of bullying. The transition of a young boy (the protaginist) who bullied a deaf girl in primary school and his eventual atonement in high school by trying to make it up to the girl, is a journey you would definitely want to watch.
Perfect Blue
The legendary Satoshi Kon gave us a masterpiece and it's amazing to even think that this film came out in 1997! Perfect Blue is a psychological thriller of a kind I have never seen before and just messes with the idea of reality itself. Satoshi Kon is also said to have inspired Christopher Nolan's idea of Inception.
Weathering With You
Weathering With You is a manga adaptation and this anime film released in 2019. The film was selected as the Japanese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards. That in itself is a huge reason to watch it. But what impacted me the most about this romantic fantasy was its supernatural element and magic realism. The intermingling of a legendary myth in the urban setting of modern Tokyo is a juxtaposition that very few can pull off.
