If you are looking for statement tees for summer, check out YoungU — they have a nice range with messages that make point.

What Makes It Awesome

This little shop, selling printed T-shirts from a garage space in Hindustan Park {close to Sienna cafe and Byloom}, stocks a range of comfy, cotton tees. We specially loved the white T-shirts.with lovely batik art patches. Some of the artwork is derived from Jamini Roy paintings.

Their tees are very popular with college people and those who frequent the indie rock scene and bikers. While you are there, check out their range of printed T-shirts. The small, quirky selection of T-shirts is easy on the pocket {around INR 300-400} and have familiar city iconography and legends with clever messages in Bengali or English.

The subtle, innovative graphics, dreamed up by a group of young people, range from a Superman-style logo which has Kolkata’s darling sleuth, Felu Mitter’s name, an appeal to save Sunderbans {with a rather imaginatively done tiger in a Bengali font}, and some nice ones with typical Kolkata images {trams, Victoria Memorial, rickshaws}.

Pro-Tip

We suggest that you ditch those boring branded tees and pick up a few from YoungU for the summer — take up an anti-sweatshop chain stand and be original at one go!
