The Chinese community in Kolkata have been here since the 19th century, working as dental professionals, shoe sellers, and restaurateurs. An interesting fact; they introduced the city's first man-pulled rickshaws! Yet their greatest present? The Chinese-Indian cuisine, which is Kolkata's favourite comfort food.

In every bite, you can feel Kolkata's rich Chinese influences from Hakka, Cantonese, Hubinese, and Shandong. Once confined to certain areas, it has now branched out throughout the city, appearing in brand-new hotels and restaurants. Here are 13 of our favourite Chinese restaurants in Kolkata, from breakfast to dinner!

Vintage Asia

Vintage Asia is a high-end Chinese restaurant in Kolkata with excellent food presentation, more individualised service, a wonderful atmosphere with lots of Chinese décor, and kind, helpful staff. They serve both Chinese and "rest of Asia" cuisine through an open kitchen setup. Try the raw mango dip and handmade chips when you're seated at your table. The slices of raw mango are too good to devour. The stir-fried crispy bhetki with Thai saam ros sauce is a creative fusion meal that you can order. A dim sum comprising prawns and other shellfish, hargow had a thin, translucent shell. Its stuffing was full of herbs and spices, truly succulent, and tasted terrific. Black pepper chicken, kungpao chicken, pork spare ribs, burnt garlic mixed fried rice, and Tanzania 63 GF are more dishes you should get!

Nori

Nori, located on the 31st floor of The Westin Kolkata Rajarhat, is a languidly natural Pan Asian gourmet food adventure that involves innovative teppanyaki and a stellar drink menu. Keep your phones at the ready because cooking on an open flattop is nothing short of visual art. With a Tokyo Mule in hand, order the clear-based dumplings packed with a crunchy and refreshing assortment of vegetable stuffing, enjoying it with the wasabi and the chilli garlic oil. Not to forget, Sakura salad, Crispy Lotus fritters, Tod Man Khao Pod, Scallion pancake, Po Pia Je, Eoi tempura, and twice-cooked pork ribs.

Tori Gyoza in spicy ponzu, Yakiudon with chicken and egg, and the show-stopping Buta Kakuni in spicy miso are what you need to bite into as well. Remember to wow on dessert with the always delicious Rocher Brownie and Matcha Cheesecake as your eyes soak in the panorama view of the city below.

Tung Nam Eating House

When it comes to exceptional Chinese restaurants in Kolkata, Tung Nam at Tirreti Bazar is a widely recognised hotspot. The epitome of a hidden gem and legend. Lung Fung soup, mixed meifoon, and schezwan fish are some of their well-known and distinctive pork dishes that will leave you wanting more. Every Chinese lover should experience this secret gem. Furthermore, it is cost-effective and can accommodate about 40 people at a time.

What is our favourite thing about this place? For those who steer clear of pork, there are chicken yam wontons, which are tender and flavourful wontons filled with delectable minced chicken; there is also chicken in sweet garlic sauce; and there is chicken hamchoy rice, which is a whole meal in and of itself—steamed rice coated with a unique gravy of chicken and hamchoy.

Mandarin Restaurant

Monica Liu, often known as the "Don of China Town," has done a fantastic job with Mandarin Restaurant, which is located at the intersection of Southern Avenue and Sarat Bose Road. It has a classic Cantonese charm, but what about the cuisine? Fire, fire, fire. Cantonese noodles with their original green chilli sauce, prawn rice noodles, and crunchy chilli garlic fish. And the lemon garlic chicken, which is crispy and sticky? Chef's kiss.

As an interesting side note, Monica Liu, the owner of Kim Ling, Beijing, Tung Fong, and Mandarin with another branch on Lake Avenue, began her gastronomic career by preparing momos with her sister following her family's unlawful detention during the 1962 Indo-China War. She resisted local thugs attempting to get free lunches at Kim Ling in 1991. It's safe to say that she constructed her massive empire through one meal at a time!

Chinoiserie

One of Kolkata's most prestigious Chinese restaurants is Chinoiserie. In fact, it continues to be an absolute favourite for many of the folks I know. Well known for its excellent line of furniture, accessories, and décor, eat the most unusual and authentic meals at this five-star restaurant. The soup with crab meat and onions is thick and full of starch. The pan-fried chilly fish is hot and has a flavour of soy sauce, bell pepper, and bits. Next, try the Sichuan crispy potato, which is the epitome of chatpataa, the Gui Zou fish, or fish in black bean sauce, and the prawns with chilly butter garlic.

Now, for the ultimate gourmet experience, order the Ginger and Wine Lamb—Lo shou lamb. This lamb shreds nicely and is quite tender. The taste of the light brownish sauce is rather pleasing. When combined with mixed meifoon, it leaves a gastronomic afterglow. Try the mapo tofu, Malha-seasoned sliced fish, and quick-fried lamb with cumin and onion if you want to go all out. Dessert options include iced lychee, toffee walnut, homemade ice cream, Chinese pine nut pancake, date pancake, or adzuki bean pancake.

The decor incorporates traditional Chinese attributes such as red lanterns, wooden furnishings, and artwork to create a warm and inviting feel. For starters, the golden fried prawn and chicken drumsticks of heaven are a must! Order mixed fried rice, mixed hakka chowmin, and Shanghai chicken as your main course.

One of the greatest spots to sample Pan Asian cuisine in Kolkata. I adore their incredibly chill atmosphere. This place has delicious meals. Try their Cream cheese dimsum, please! The curries, drinks, and baos are also crucial.

The restaurant's edamame egg rice with garlic, chocolate marquise, and steamed bhekti in coconut sauce will all become favourites. For excellent Chinese food, Kafulok is a hidden gem. (Again, Monica Leu reigns supreme as always! ) They follow their own cooking method to the letter. This is the perfect venue for everyone who wants to eat pork and feel surprised. The meat is of excellent quality as well. The atmosphere is ideal for lunch or dinner, and the service is equally commendable. An absolute jewel in its own right.

Beijing

While few restaurants in Tangra nowadays still manage to make excellent food, Beijing is one of them. Tangra is well renowned for being the birthplace of Chinese and Indo-Chinese cuisine in Kolkata. The fried wontons and golden shrimp deserve special recognition.

Really delicious quantities with a nostalgic flavour reminiscent of our childhood Chinese food. The Thai soup is also delicious, a little acidic, and the chicken hakka noodles and chilli chicken were just right! Unquestionably one of the greatest spots in Kolkata to have Indo-Chinese food, if not the finest. Krystal Chopstick

We definitely benefit from this location when it comes to the list of the best Chinese restaurants in Kolkata. Both the cuisine and the atmosphere here are excellent. The mixed chimney soup would undoubtedly be our choice. Also, the restaurant's chimney soup has been well-known since 1994! This is served in a chimney and includes glass noodles, prawns, fish, and a variety of veggies. This meal is so large that it should be shared by four to five people. Not to be missed are the delectable appetisers of chilli prawns. It is made up of large prawns that have been battered, deep-fried, and then mixed in some cold sauce. They have a burst of spice and are crunchy.

Thread chicken, which is deeply fried chicken that has been finely chopped and coated, is best served hot with sauce. As for the main course, Shanghai chicken and vegetable fried rice with chicken noodles. The Shanghai chicken has a lot of taste and is spicy. This will go well with either rice or noodles.

Must Try: Chicken hakka chow, crab meat fried rice, chilli garlic squid, brown glazed duck

Time: 12 PM - 10:30 PM

Price: INR 650 for two
