If there's one Italian dish that Kolkatans absolutely swear by, it has to be pasta. Several restaurants in the city have also sprinkled desi tadka to this cheesy delight, thereby increasing the taste of the dish by several notches. Ahead of World Pasta Day (October 25), we bring you top five places in Kolkata serving the best versions of this cheesy Italian delight.
#WorldPastaDay: Top Five Places Serving The Best Cheesy Delights In Town
JW Marriott
JW Marriott is gearing up to celebrate three-day long Pasta Fiesta from October 25–27 at the all day dining JW Kitchen. Their in-house chefs will dish out special preparations like Spaghetti in Picante, Penne al Sugo Primavera, Linguine con Leonardo, freshly baked lasagne and much more to savour. Make sure you drop in to relish the authentic taste of Italian cuisine.
Hoppipola
The only reason why we included Hoppipola in this list is to express our gratitude towards them for introducing the Signature Vodka Creamed Prawn Pasta and Carbonara, available in both penne and spaghetti variants. If you're a pasta connoisseur then you can't give these dishes a miss. Served in velvety creamy tomato sauce and cooked with a splash of vodka, the succulent prawns come together in perfect penne pasta harmony. Carbonara, on the other hand, is a quintessential Italian pasta dish from Rome made with egg, hard cheese, guanciale, and black pepper.
Sienna Store & Cafe
Their pasta menu is peppered with delightful flavours. There’s pasta with lemon butter sauce and pista crumb, pasta with fresh tomato sauce, pasta with Sienna's signature pesto and Spaghetti Bolognaise, a true Italian classic with a meaty, chilli sauce.
Serafina
Serafina is one of the few places in Kolkata to visit for mouth watering Italian food. Their bowls of pasta will leave you spoilt for choice. They specially stress on retaining the authentic Italian taste of pasta. You can opt for Penne Primavera all' Arrabbiata (spicy tomato sauce with vegetables), Spaghetti Aglio E Olio or the chef-recommended Tagliolini Con Petti Di Pollo - wholesome preparation of homemade pasta, spruced with chicken, babypeas, mushrooms and dollop of cream. Health freaks can opt for the whole wheat pasta, which is low in calories and carbs.
Chili's Grill & Bar
This American-Mexican cuisine has already won our hearts with their out-of-the-box fusion spread and they have indeed done wonders with pasta. Even though they serve only two basic variants of pasta (both veg and non-veg), the concoction is so good that you have to try them out. There's Spicy Smoked Pasta - penne pasta tossed in spicy alfredo sauce, baked with cheese and bread crumbs and topped with corn salsa and citrus chili sauce, and Cajun Pasta - penne pasta smothered in alfredo sauce with a hint of cajun spice, chipotle pesto and topped with grated parmesan.
To Die For
Go Italiano at this restaurant with their delicious range of pasta bowls. To cater to the Italian palate in the city, chef Shashvat Dhandhania has laid out a host of dishes. There's freshly homemade fettuccine tossed with garlic, chilli and basil, De-moulded roasted vegetable lasagna made with tomato and pesto sauce, pumpkin ravioli in browned butter sauce with toasted almonds and capers and Pecorino and cream cheese agnolotti served with textures of broccoli and carrots.
Cafe Mezunna
Available in four variants -- penne, falafel, spaghetti and handmade fetuccini -- their pasta selection is loaded with flavour, often dripping with cheese. You can opt for any pasta variant and choose your preferred toppings and sauce. For vegetarians, there's rich creamy mushroom, grilled zucchini, asparagus, toasted walnuts, bell pepper and aglio olio. Meat lovers can opt for penne pasta with grilled chicken and pesto cream or spaghetti with pulled lamb and tomato oregano sauce.
