What Makes It Awesome

Hidden between the narrow alleys of Tangra is Kolkata’s very own and India’s only existing Chinatown. It is peppered with some of the oldest and largest restaurants serving authentic Indo-Chinese food. Big Boss is one such gem run by a Chinese family, serving the popular ‘Calcutta-Tangra Style Chinese’ since years.

Big Boss is nestled in a crowded meandering lane, a little ahead of Beijing and is one of the most popular restaurants in Chinatown. Always bustling with life, this restaurant offers some authentic ‘Hakka style’ Chinese.

Ideal for big family gatherings or casual office parties, the primary restaurant is a two-storied building. They have extended another section to accommodate a secondary dine-out. There is not much of an ambience to speak of. However, know that if you are going to Big Boss, it’s for the food they serve and not for the ambience. Opt for Big Boss over other restaurants in Tangra for the prawn wafers they serve here. This along with your favourite choice of poison (read: booze) is a winning combo. Get started with the Dragon Fish and Crispy Chicken. Then go for the Sweet & Sour Fish or Hot Chilli Garlic Chicken with either Fried Rice, Hakka Noodles or Cantonese Noodles. Finish off your meal with Tuty-Fruity Ice-Cream (because there’s not much of a choice in the dessert section anyway).

What Could Be Better

A lot could be better - ambience, service, more variety on the menu etc. However, as long as, Big Boss manages to keep the tradition alive and the flavours intact, we are not complaining.

Pro-Tip

The portions served here are pretty big so don’t let those hunger pangs do the ordering and then regret later.
