What Is It?
Did you know France is the third-largest producer of animated films in the world? In order to showcase the creativity and sheer technical excellence of French animation, Bonjour India will screen feature films and short films to audiences in ten cities in India {and that includes Kolkata too!}.
Who Is It For?
Love good cinema? Take our word and ditch Netflix this month, and indulge in this French cinematic experienec. The selection will include two compilations drawn from the most important festival dedicated to animation, Best of Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2017, for the general audience, and Best of Annecy Kids 2017.
Some of the films you can expect include Ma Maman Est En Amérique, Elle A Rencontré Buffalo Bill {My Mummy Is In America And She Met Buffalo Bill} which is about a 6-year- old boy who tells his teacher his mother is a secretary when she really travels the world; and Tout En Haut Du Monde {Long Way North}, a film about a young Russian aristocrat who sets out on a journey to find her adventurer grandfather and save her family’s reputation. Expect many more such intriguing films, along with nine shorts.
Why Should I Go?
Because the catch about the films being screened in film festivals is that more often than not, they do not have an official commercial release in India. So the only way to get to watch these award-winning festival-circuit films is by attending these screenings. Also, this festival has been around for almost 60 years now.
Anything Else?
The screenings are a part of the third edition of Bonjour India, a four-month-long mega voyage across India that celebrates Indo-French partnership. This time, from November 2017 to February 2018, Bonjour India will have covered around 100 programmes and projects in over 30 cities across India. You can find out more about the project here.
