BOBO Calcutta was started by Ayushman Mitra and Jeet Shahi to make art available to us in the form of clothes and accessories like bags, jewellery and decor. We love this brand because the prints are bold, loud and break away from the regular and mundane fashion norms. The designs are vibrant, unconventional and surreal with floral motifs and intricate hand embroidery. More than that, they are a celebration of one's right to love and live without fear making the designs unique in their own right.
Look close and you'll notice a split-face motif in a lip-lock position in a lot of their creations. These gender-fluid, kissing faces represent love and equality while challenging gender-related stereotypes (all their apparel is gender-neutral). Find a vibrant range of dresses, shirts, jackets, pants, jumpsuits, tops, t-shirts and drapes in pure silk, cotton and muslin with intricate hand embroidery (zardozi, beads, embellishments, stone) done on them. The prints are mostly developed from Ayushman's paintings while the colours are similar to the pride ones celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.
We loved the drapes in printed silk with Cubist motifs and references to Berlin's nightlife as well as the embroidered jackets and the one-eyed poppy t-shirt. If you're someone who wears your heart on your sleeve and loves a psychedelic touch to your clothes, this brand is for you.
