What Makes It Awesome

With the aim to provide sustainable fashion to the more forward thinking customers, ODE by Oindrila & Arka is a Kolkata-based women's fashion brand that started recently. Although ODE's collection is all things Bengal, yet it's very universal in appeal, because of subtle colours and comfortable fabrics.

ODE's collection is predominant with breezy dresses, apt for a humid climate and hot weather conditions. Currently, the collection revolves around a fascinating theme, in tandem with the brand name, called 'Borno' (meaning letter in Bengali). It's an ode to the Bangla language and they incorporate it through basic Bangla typography embroidered on their clothes. All this is to spread awareness about the local culture, artistry and weaving.

ODE uses fabrics such as cotton, mulmul, matka silk and tussar silk to keep the fashion universal. So you can wear it all the year round. The clothes are all dyed using natural dyes from vegetable peels, fruits and flowers, to keep it organic and natural. We spotted a white dress with multicoloured full sleeves and an asymmetric hem, dotted with jamdani motifs, and that's something we would definitely buy for our partners!

Side pleated on the front and the back, a Hibiscus flowy dress with block prints was what caught our attention when we were looking for those Bangla alphabet imprints. Something more elegant yet comfortable would be a tussar tent dress with hand weaved zari and dokra buttons, which aptly reflects the crafts of West Bengal. A dress here starts from INR 4,500.
