We all love a refreshing monsoon shower and some fried snacks and hot tea to go with it. Here are 6 cafes that let you watch the rain pour down while you gorge on delicious food.

The Wise Owl Steakhouse

Wooden tables, hanging lights, steak and chips, and an open-air, rooftop seating with trees peeping in – sounds like a perfect monsoon evening. The Wise Owl is known for serving up hard-core carnivorous meals including pork platters, beef steaks, juicy burgers and the works. We loved the BBQ Chicken Wings and Bangers and Mash.

Pro Tip: If you want to escape the rain, sit in the ground floor café.

Monkey Bar

The newest and coolest place to grab a drink, Monkey Bar has finally come to Kolkata. The wooden flooring, sky-high location and glass walls make it the perfect setting to have a drink on a monsoon evening. You’ll want to pull out your camera and capture both the view as well as the interiors of this bar. We love the sangria and the Snicker Bar. Try to catch one of their live-music nights for the best experience.

Pro Tip: If you’re not yet 21, visit before 6pm. People under 18 aren’t allowed at all.

Abcos Food Plaza

An old-time favourite of the residents of Salt Lake, Abcos which has a lot of options on their menu (everything from continental to Chinese to Mughlai). Try the chicken kebabs and their new brunch menu. They have among the cheapest prices for beer out there so you can enjoy a drink and the rain together.

Pro Tip: Don’t be put off by the outside {it’s quite deceptive}, the interiors are much nicer

Wolves’11

The giant glass windows of Wolves’11 will give you a perfect view of the rain. Fully equipped with a pool table and funky sports décor, it’s the perfect place to hang out with the squad after college. We enjoyed the finger food, although you should visit for the vibe more than the food.

Pro Tip: Go during a match when they have live screenings.

Roof Top View

Take a walk from college and grab a South Indian breakfast while enjoying the spectacular view from this café. If you go in the evening, you see Kolkata all lit up. Service is really fast, so it’s ideal for a quick meal. Completely vegetarian, the dhania dosa and chhola bhatura are favourites of the regulars.

Pro Tip: Carry cash just to be on the safe side

Aqua

Poolside on a rainy morning is surprisingly entertaining. Head on over for a hearty breakfast or a relaxed evening pulling hookah by the pool, either way you won’t be disappointed.  We love the super-thin pizza and the long list of drinks available. Great for a romantic evening out with your loved one.

Pro Tip: Ask for one of the poolside tables in the covered area so you get to stay dry while still enjoying the weather.

Don’t forget to carry your umbrella. Even though the cafes may have indoor seating, you don’t want to get drenched on the walk back to your car.
