Chamu's Creation is one store that you have to visit. Hidden in plain sight, the store is located just a little ahead of Singhi Park Durga Puja pandal in Dover Lane. Run by Anitaa Ghosh, the store stocks all kinds of apparel for women and also has a limited collection for men and kids. All of it is designed by Anitaa herself and handcrafted by her team, most of whom are specially-abled craftsmen. Isn't that awesome?
Chamu's stocks sarees, kurtis, tops, stoles, dupattas, salwar suits, palazzos, panjabis and shirts as well as accessories like handkerchiefs, earrings, different kinds of bags and neckpieces. Anitaa mostly makes clothes out of fabrics like silk, tusser, linen, cotton, Bangalore silk, kota silk, rayon and georgette to name a few. All of the embroidery is done by hand. We saw a lot of hand block printing, hand painting, threadwork and zari embroidery done on the clothes.
We spotted a saree made of pure tusser embroidered with nokshi katha and hand block printing. It's perfect for a casual day out or family functions. Fan of Rabindranath Tagore's poetry? Then go for the beige coloured kurti with thakur's poetry and verses hand-painted on them! All the earrings and neckpieces are also made by hand using clay and mud while the bags are made of old used jeans, cotton and jute. All you men must try the panjabis and kurtas on offer. Most of them are in solid prints but if you want it done in a particular design or fabric, the owner will gladly do it for you.
