Chitpur Local's Hamdasti is back again and this time with their first art trail for The Kolkata Festival. Starting today (and for the next three days) the Chitpur Crafts Collective will take you on an art trail around one of Kolkata's oldest neighbourhood, Chitpur. Now, before you think it's any other walk that we are talking of, we'd like you to check out the map (given below) of the tour.
For starters, there's no tour leader to follow a trail. Instead you'll have a map that will guide your tour and will tell you about the neighbourhood and the various art installations. A one-of-a-kind exciting and interactive trail, the map will take you around the iconic spots and places in Chitpur and tell you of its story. From the rare books of Diamond Library to Rudradeb Das's sandesh mould shop, Urdu calligraphy artists near Nakhoda Masjid and others - there's a world full of unique Kolkata things to explore though these lanes. Adding to these are the art installations by popular scenographer Swarup Dutta, bamboo sculptor Binod Pakray and others.
For every stop that you make (following the map) you will meet the curators of the art trail to tell you more about the place or person. This aside, there are also several workshops (jewellery making, block printing, book binding, sandesh making, etc) that you can participate in, which will run through out the three days of the walk.
