What Makes It Awesome

If you are a passionate art lover, then this place in town is meant for you. The Centre of International Modern Art (CIMA) is one of the most premium art centres in Calcutta, which opened in 1993 under the guidance of ABP Pvt. Ltd. To date, they have curated and organised nearly a hundred exhibitions that have won critical and popular acclaim nationally, as well as overseas. The centre has over 11,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art gallery space in Calcutta, holding interactions and frequent seminars by scholars, artists, directors and performers.

They also have a CIMA Award Project, which aims to recognise and award young artists from across India for their talent and creativity. They currently have an exhibition called 12 Masters, which is a meticulously curated array of artworks spanning diverse artists, from the likes of Ganesh Pyne to Arpita Singh, encapsulating a spectrum that encompasses both gender and media variations. This exhibition is divided into three phases, beginning with the elements of fantasy and gradually moving into the realm of the subliminal. A few other major artists that the gallery has already featured include names like Jamini Roy, Jatin Das, MF Hussain and Ganesh Payne.

CIMA also holds an annual pre-Puja lifestyle exhibition, showcasing a collection of gorgeous saris, stunning jewellery, trendy bags, designer clothes, curated artefacts and home decor items from across India; it is no less than a treasure trove for Pujo shoppers. It goes on for a month and exhibits India’s oldest weaving and crafting traditions as well as contemporary adaptations by master craftsmen and young designers. To stay updated with the dates for this we suggested you keep a tab on their website and social media.
