What Is It?
Friday evening plans just got sorted with this live fusion of digital and performing arts at Rabindra Sadan from 7pm onwards, as a part of Alliance Française du Bengal’s initiative Bonjour India. Hakanaï is a digital solo performance from Adrien M / Claire B that made its debut at BAM’s Fishman Theatre on March 17, 2015. But what exactly is it? It’s not a regular dance recital, instead it is a choreographed performance installation combining video projection mapping, CGI, and sensors to dynamically respond to the movements and proximity of its performer.
Nothing here is pre-recorded, the visuals and sounds are generated and animated on the fly, which means their performance is unique in every show.
Who Is It For?
It’s for everyone who is enthralled by the idea of seeing live dancers move to the beat of complex programming, video projection mapping, CGI, and sensors. It’s not an ordinary dance concert, it’s an audio-visual experience.
Why Should I Go?
Expect a one-on-one interaction between performer and complex programming of a software created by one of the artists especially for this installation. The performance is held inside a cube, which gives rise to a space at the fringe of the imaginary and the real – hence get prepared to be taken on a three-dimensional journey through the entire performance. Most importantly, it’s free and open to all.
A bit about Hakanai – it is a Japanese word meaning ‘fleeting’, a dance choreography performed in the immersive environment of a moving cube.
Anything Else?
The show on Friday is even more special because it’s not just a basic re-show of Hakanaï, it features Indian danseuse Priyabrata Panigrahi whose set interprets and showcases this choreography. He has been trained exclusively by Virginie Barjonnet who will later join him to travel India to showcase this innovative performance.
