Following the annual Diwali tradition, are you all decorating your house this year with beautiful diyas? In that case, we have found a few places which you might find useful for your diya shopping.
Diwali 2020: Hit Up These Places In The City For Diyas And Candles
Lake Market
Whether its Durga Pujo, Kali Pujo or Diwali, Lake Market never disappoints when it comes to your shopping needs. Avoid checking out stores selling crackers (we are trying to be responsible!) and go straight to the stalls offering beautiful earthen diyas, starting from as low as INR 20.
Kalighat
Kalighat is probably the most lively place in Kolkata just before Kali Pujo. The moment you take Kali Temple Road (leading to the Kalighat Temple), you'll find hawkers setting up stalls, selling lights and diyas. The entire stretch will offer you plenty of options to choose from, but we would urge you to buy the diya sets, because they are real cheap here.
Bara Bazar Market
How can we not mention Burra Bazar when talking about Diwali shopping? The area right outside Satyanarayan Park AC Market is dotted with street stalls offering various options in diyas. Take your time, browse through them carefully and buy the best ones for your house. And you can thank us later!
Giggles
This gift shop in Park Street, just above Burgrill (try not to look at the burgers and walk up straight by using the narrow staircase), is a hidden gem in the heartland of the city. They keep diyas starting INR 130. One of Kolkata's iconic gift shops, Giggles in Park Street has been delighting us even before Archies and Starmarks entered the market. The place may be small, but the charm is still there. You will be surprised to find the hardly available Ekam candles in jars and votives here.
Aakriti
People staying in Lake Town and Bangur side can drop by at Aakriti, a gifting and accessory shop. Apart from stocking personalised gifting options, they are also keep birthday cards and showpieces. Here, you can get a diya for your home beginning from as low as INR 10! What is even cooler, is that the store owner will show the kind of diyas she keeps if you connect on video call!
Dakshini Prayash
Go eco-friendly this Diwali with Dakshini Prayash's boxes of love priced at INR 650. These boxes contain four plantable diyas (that grow into beautiful plants like calendula, wheatgrass, sunflowers and marigolds), two upcycled bandhanwars (handmade organza flowers) and two DIY reusable rangoli kits (comprising two big yellow flowers, one medium pink flower, six leaves and one small flower) that you can use to create rangoli on table tops, window ledges or on the floor.
They deliver across India. Get in touch via email (dakshiniprayash@gmail.com) or Instagram. You can also call them on +91 9830949705, +91 9831364696 or +91 9831713504 for deets and orders.
